...and is also a very good idea.
For the past week I have smiled guitily whenever my Grandfather came and stood in the doorway to glare at me and tell me "you need to be careful with those games. You could become addicted and so your life depends on them." Well, duhhh, we all know how friggin' addictive this game is. "It's distracting you from more important things, you know."
Here I wanted to get mad. Because for the first time in my life, there really is nothing else I ought to be doing with my time. Better things, maybe, but not commitments or important things - for the past twelve years I've had school, and now I don't. Okay, admittedly I could be jobhunting more seriously. I could be pestering Grandpa to take me to town to get my Canadian Learners Drivers Liscense. I could be wandering around the village into shops that aren't hiring handing out resumes that will likely be put aside until the end of March. I could be sleeping right now which considering it's nearing 3 am, would likely be a good thing. There are a lot of things I could be doing, rather than simming. But nothing important that I need to be doing, like studying.
Anyways, then Grandpa says "Didn't you say when you came here that you wanted to get some reading done?"
Well, yeah actually. I did. So maybe I should put an end to his sermons (for now - he's a preacher and always has been and in a week he'll find something else. :P ) and put into practise what I set out to do with myself:
1. Read 100 books or more in 2011.
2. Keep track of how many I read.
3. First time reads only.
(Also allowed: books that were read to me as a child that I haven't read to myself before, and books I haven't read in over 5 years.)
* = Had it read to me as a child, first time reading it for myself
** = Read it for the first time so long ago that I had forgotten everything in it
Mostly everyone else has said something about needing reccomendations, but I don't think I'll put that just yet. There are thirty that I thought of just now jotting down the names of some of the books I could read, so I think they'll keep me busy. I was planning on going to the library tomorrow, anyways. I wonder if kids novels are allowed. I have a lot of those that I want to read for kicks.
Tomorrow I'll start knawing on The Scarlet Letter (that famouse one by Nathaniel what's-his-face), and maybe I'll be able to force myself to read more of "And the Shofar Blew" by Francine Rivers. Plus whatever I bring home from the library. I'll have to read about 2 books a week for this challenge.
100 books,
