On the topic of the welsh. I'm trying very hard not to take your comments as an attack, so please excuse me if my response seems defensive. I should point out that the thoughts portrayed are Suzie's rather than mine. I'm actually half welsh and know exactly what a special breed they are and haven't referred to them at any point as being English. It should be pointed out though, that Suzie's comment of them being almost as defiantly independent as the Scottish has weight in that while Wales has managed to gain its own assembly, the Scottish have their own 'parliament' and are about to vote on independence where as such a referendum is nowhere in the cards for Wales. The comparison between the two countries was political and not made in reference to language. Welsh certainly is more alive than Scotch Gallic, hence why Suzie noted they were refusing to let it die out.
Suzie is English, and very cynical. Suzie's point, given that perspective, is that even the welsh, with their national pride, will come out for a spectacle. This is factually accurate. The Queen's Jubilee tour last year more than proves that, with crowds packing the streets wherever she went, including, in wales. She is after all, their Queen too.
Thank you for reading and taking the time to comment.
Oh no, my comment was no attack, at all and yes, it were suzie's thought. I have Welsh and Scottish friends, was in Wales and Scotland and it was rather interesting to talk about the topic. My Scottish friend is thinking, the Scottish will in the end decide against independence. We will see. But if it comes to the feeling, wales is feeling more like another country, but we will see, what the future brings. Suzie is no more (ok, in your story she is still alive) but anyway...
