OK...so I've done a good job at keeping my politics seperate from here
but as a woman studies/political science major this takes a lot of holding back
today my lid was blown
I have an intense hatred of Stephen Harper
I won't even get into that but today the huge idot that people decided to vote for to punish the liberals (by the way you just punished yourselves..good going)
decided that the 5 million dollar cut that he made in September to Status of Women Canada wasn't enough
Nope, today it was announced that 12 of the 16 regional offices for SOWC are going to close.
This might sound like not a huge deal but those offices are where Canada's womens movement has been able to survive.
They don't just sit there and think about how their going to get just as good as men, but they deal with the real issues the governement looks away from.
The big one is poverty. And even though Conservatives might just think go get a job, the fact is the second largest group who lives in poverty is working people.
34% of children live in a household where one parent works full time, but are living belong poverty levels. That is 1/3 of Canada's children!!!
Yet Harper is still taking away social programs one by one by one,..and giving back the money to Alberata and Ontario who need it the least.
I thought the role of government was to take care of it's citizens? This is just taking care of the elite.
I wish Mr. Harper would have sat in on just ONE of my woman studies classes before he made the comment that "Women are now equal."
Sure, I'm going to take it from some upper middle class, white, religious man that I am now eqaul???
How about letting the women decide for themselves when they feel they are no longer being stigmatized.
How can a man who has the least number of women in his party just claim women are equal?
He can't even get women to agree with him yet we're equal to him?
Oh, and I'm sure that all the single mom's out there who were counting on the child care program to get them out of poverty are just as equal to other working men.
If we weren't so fortunate, that could have been one of us growing up like that, or someday we could even end up one of those women.
Just because we have University degrees, we aren't guarenteed anything.
ARGGGG
Feminists aren't man haters, but we do hate when men tell us what we feel, and what we are.
I think I've said enough for one day.
