I want everyone to see this, even though I am aware that no one frequents this, and the only possible viewing of this is at random. Maybe that is just as well.
In 30 days, all workplaces will be required to verify their workers social security numbers, and if they do not match up, they will have to fire the worker. Now let me clarify that I am perfectly legal, but this new law quite frankly pisses me off. It is going to ruin our economy if it is actually enforced. It will force all of the restaurants, hotels, farms, to fire millions of people. How will a restaurant run with no cooks, how will a hotel run without food and cleaning staff, how will farms, one of the most vital parts of our survival, run with no workers? I hate it when people say they need to deport all of the illegal immigrants without even knowing the facts.
What America really needs is a plan that works. First of all, immigrants are helping our economy, not hurting it. They do not take jobs from anyone, they work the jobs that hardly any Americans are willing to do. Of course there are cases of illegals committing crimes, but not a crazy amount more than U.S. citizens. Plus it is statistically proven that these immigrants are not arrested at a higher rate for violent crimes than US citizens, more for actual Americans. I read an article once that most illegals do not contribute to taxes for the schools and health care that they use, and that is one of the most outrageous claims made in this immigration battle. Most immigrants are paid legally, and not under the table, and therefore do their taxes just like everyone else, if not more, for fear of being audited and being at war with the government. To prove that fact, they are passing this law, which means there is a large amount of workers being hired in well respected establishments and on the payroll like everyone else.
Another point- all of the immigrants I have met, and that is a lot, but not to say all of them, are very reliable workers. They all have jobs, they all hardly ever call in sick, they all work extremely hard at low salaries. I have seen probably thousands of bums in San Francisco and the bay area, and have only ever encountered maybe about three Hispanic ones, the rest clearly being American.
I am sorry but this is ridiculous and will not solve the problem. Maybe they should pass fair immigration laws instead of banning Hispanics from entering, and more particularly Mexicans. Creating a fair work immigration would be smart for all parties involved. I do not know anyone who wants to eat a restaurant, but prepare their own meal first. I do not know anyone who goes on vacation and stays at a hotel only to have to clean up and cook for themselves. I do not think that every American will be willing to plant their own vegetables. I think this is going to cause a big strain in our already strained economy. These Mexicans in California do provide services that no one else wants to do. They create more jobs by keeping the restaurants and such open, not take all of them. I think people need to get their facts straight before talking crap. So an illegal crashed into your car, it was way more likely to have a citizen crash into you, but because he was an immigrant that suddenly becomes an issue to you.
I have a lot to say about this. I feel like starting a protest or petition. I think so many people are uneducated about this, and want to deport all of them. But NO ONE can say they have never used, ate, or rendered a service that could not have been provided without the work of an illegal.
Yes there is a problem, and it needs to be fixed. This is a ploy by Bush and administration, to sidetrack from bigger issues like global warming and getting the hell out of Iraq. They should re-address this again when they have a real plan, not the easy way out now, but much harder way out later. I am annoyed with this country.
