Last weekend

I was supposed to spend the better part of this past weekend watching my Veronica Mars Season 2 DVDs. I had a horrible sinus headache on Friday afternoon, which made me decide to drive to Mom and Dad's house on Saturday morning instead, so we got a later start than I would have liked. In fact, we didn't even watch any episodes on Saturday, because I got there about 2:00 PM and we spent some time talking, and looking at the new Ikea catalog I brought for Mom, and making dinner. And then we went to the casino for the evening.

I only brought $35 to the casino, figuring that it was my spending money for Saturday and Sunday and was what I could afford to lose. Since I wasn't entirely convinced that I should spend the money, I gambled very conservatively and cashed out whenever I had more money in a machine than I had put in. As a result, we were there for nearly six hours and I walked out with $25 of my original $35. I would have walked out with exactly as much as I walked in with, but I lost $10 trying to guilt my mother into abandoning a particular slot machine and going home. Since it was nearly 1:00 AM and I was practically snoozing on a slot machine, it seemed like a reasonable loss. The late hour returning home meant no VM that night, though.

Between Sunday and Monday we watched about half of the season, however. We probably would have watched more, but U.S. Open tennis was on and we didn't want to chase Dad out of the living room by completely taking over the TV. Poor Mom is terribly curious about the resolution of the mysteries, but I want to watch the show with her so I didn't leave the discs behind. I'm such a brat that way! We're now trying to figure out a weekend for Season 2, Marsathon Part 2, but it's made difficult by the fact that my parents may be spending the month of September on vacation. The vacation may be a couple of weeks at a state park in Northern Michigan (they have a 37 foot motorhome, so not exactly roughing it), but as long as it gets them away from home construction projects, it's a vacation. Dad bought a fishing boat this year, so he may not get bored after a week and a half and run back to his power tools like last year. Dad's concession to being a retiree is that he wakes up at 7:00 instead of 5:00 and works in his basement instead of a factory.

When I got home home on Monday night, the results of my glucose test were waiting for me. Both fasting and postprandial results fall well in the normal range, which is reassuring, I guess. I'll still keep an eye on it, though, because of family history and my weight. It also makes my doctor's initial assessment of my earlier health problems as PCOS less likely, which is worrisome. However, I haven't had a return of any of my symptoms since I started my prescription and that can only be a good thing.

weekend, health, parents
