This is for those of you who wanted to know where Just Like Family was going... And, there will be more to come!
As I was falling asleep last nite I had a great title for this... now I don't... that's what I get for not writing it down! Enjoy! ~Jen
Be My Family
Sara woke to the sun shining brightly into the room. She quickly pulled the pillow over her head in an attempt to go back to sleep. After a few minutes of tossing and turning she gave up and pulled her head out from under the pillow. Rolling over onto her side she saw Michael was already up but left her a paper crane in his place. Signing contentedly she reached over and picked up the delicate bird. Turning it around in her hands she noticed small writing on the inside of a wing, opening it up she found his perfect script.
Sara~
I have to go to work for a little. You have an appointment at 10am at Oliver's spa today. Enjoy!
Yours,
Michael
"How sweet!" Sara said with a smile as she looked over at the clock. It was 9 o'clock, she had just enough time to get a shower and get to the spa. While in the shower Sara thought how everything finally fell into place. She and Michael became very serious and he asked her to move in with them. She hesitated but eventually said yes figuring she spent all her spare time there anyway. She finally felt like she belonged, finally a part of a real family.
Grabbing her purse she ran out the door and got in her car. Sitting on top of her dashboard was a red paper rose, just like the one Michael gave her in the infirmary. A smile crept up her face as she put it in the cup holder next to her for safe keeping. Later she would add it to all the others he's made her that she kept in her hope chest.
---------
Michael started his day at the office, making the appointment for Sara. He sat behind his mahogany desk with a cocky smirk on his face. One more phonecall to check the reservations for dinner at the restaurant and the day was set. After he called and requested a special dessert he reached into his desk and pulled out a little black box.
------------
Sara arrived at the spa and walked up to the counter just before her appointment time and wrote her name on the sign in sheet. Before she had a chance to pick up a magazine and sit down a woman came up to her.
"Are you Miss Tancridi?" she asked.
"Yes I am." Sara replied with a small smile. It was always nice when people didn't recognize you after being so high profile in the past.
"Great, follow me." the woman replied as she started to walk down a hallway.
Sara hadn't been to the spa since her 'previous life' as she liked to call it. Her Dad would send her to the spa every year for her birthday instead of spending time with her. The woman stopped in front of one of the massage rooms and opened the door. Inside the lights were dimmed and there was soft music playing. "You'll begin in here with the full body massage and then we'll get to the manicure and pedicure." the woman said as Sara enterd the room.
--------------
Michael left his office and went to Ann Taylor to pick up a dress he ordered. He and Sara were out shopping two weeks ago and she stopped in her tracks when she saw it in the window. Michael made a mental note of the dress that day and went back a week later to order it.
Michael stepped up to the counter and the manger handed him the midnight blue dress and matching strappy sandles. "Perfect." he said as he handed her his credit card.
Leaving the store Michael flipped open his cell phone to call Lincoln.
"Remember tonight's the night." he said as Lincoln said hello.
"I know I know... LJ and I will be gone all night." Lincoln replied rolling his eyes.
"Don't forget the candles!" Michael reminded him.
"I won't bro... it'll be perfect" Lincoln said trying to get his brothet to relax.
"Thanks man." Michael said before they hung up.
------------
Sara was completely relaxed as she sat getting her pedicure and manicure. Through her entire massage Sara kept thinking to herself how great Michael was to set this up for her. Before she knew it her nails were dry and she was done. Walking up to the counter the woman who took her into the massage room told her the bill and tip were taken care of already. Sara thanked the womand and went out to her car.
Opening the car door she noticed another crane on the center console. Sara picked it up as she climbed into the drivers seat. Looking it over she noticed Michaels writing again. She chuckled as she opened it and read
Sara~
Hope you enjoyed your day. Go home to find your next surprise.
Yours,
Michael
Wondering what her surprise was Sara put the note into her purse and started towards home.
---------------
Michael was dressed and waiting. He had already laid out the dress and shoes on her bed and created a trail of origami roses from the door of their bedroom. Now all he had to do was hide so she didn't see him. He could go out and wait in the limo that was hiding around the corner but he wanted to see the look on her face when she saw what he had planned.
----------------
"Michael!" Sara called as she walked in the front door. She got no response. Sara laid her purse on the hall table and a gasp escaped her lips as she noticed the roses on the floor. Chuckling she followed them into the hallway and stopped at the door to their room. Sara pushed the door open and was slightly surprised to find the room empty. She noticed a shoe box on the bed and walked over to it. Opening the box she smiled as she recognized the shoes and quickly looked around the room to find the matching dress. On the back of the door she just came through she found a white garmet bag. Sara unzipped the bag and gasped at the beautiful dress. She slowly reached out and touched the silky material.
Sara took the dress off the door and carried it back over to the bed. After wondering what she was supposed to do she noticed another crane in the shoe box.
Sara~
Get dressed and meet me outside.
Yours,
Michael
Sara put the dress and shoes on and threw her hair up in a bun. Quickly applying some lipstick she headed out to the front door. Sara stopped in the hallway and took a quick look at herself in the mirror that hung above the table. The blue dress was simple with spaghetti straps and flowed down to the floor. Sara grabbed her purse and opened the door.
Even before she had a chance to step out onto the porch her jaw dropped. Michael stood in the driveway leaning on a stretch limo. He pushed himself off the limo and walked up the steps to Sara. "She's beautiful" he thought as a smile crept up his cheeks.
"Hi." he said taking her hand and kissing it.
"Michael, what is all this?" she asked.
"Just something I've wanted to do since we met." he replied coyly. "Are you ready for our date?"
"Where are we going?" she asked looking at the limo.
"The Arches." he replied as he helped her down the last steps and into the waiting limo. Once inside he poured two glasses of sparkling cider and handed her one. "I want to make a toast... to us." he said clinking her glass.
"To us." she repeated and took a sip.
The limo pulled up to the restaurant and the driver opened the door for the couple. Michael lead Sara to their table on the deck overlooking the water. He pulled out her chair and helped her push it in. He sat down and the waiter handed them their menu's. Michael put his down and Sara raised her eyebrow at him. "What are you doing?" she aked.
"I know what I want." he replied.
"But you didn't look at the menu." she looked confused.
"I was here once with my old firm, the filet mignon is amazing." he explained.
She nodded her head and busied herself reading the menu. Michael sat across from her studying her face. His right hand went down to his pants pocket for the millionth time that day to check that the little black box was still there.
Sara put her menu down and took a sip of her water. Neither of them had a chance to say anything before waiter came over and took their order. After the waiter left Michael took her hands and looked into her eyes.
"Did you enjoy your day?" he asked.
Sara smiled as she rubbed her thumb over his knuckles. "Absolutely, it was amazing Michael, thank-you."
"I'm glad you liked it." he replied looking down at their hands.
"How was your day at the office?"
"Good, got quite a lot done." he replied with a smile on his face.
"Glad to hear it." she replied as their salads arrived.
They ate in a comfortable silence. Just as they finished their salads their meals arrived. Sara had heard about this place from some friends. They said the service was great and they were right. By the time they were done eating the sun was setting and Sara couldn't take her eyes off the horizon. She didn't notice Michael stand up until he took her hand. She looked up into his face and her pulse quickened. Michael got down on one knee next to her and licked his lips before he began speaking.
"Sara you mean the world to me." he began and her jaw dropped open slightly. "You remember when I took you home from Lincolns the first time?"
Struggling to find her voice and failing she nodded her head yes.
He looked into her eyes as he continued, "You asked me what member of our family I wanted to be." He looked down as he pulled the black box out of his pocket. Sara gasped slightly .
"Sara, I want to be your husband." he said as he opened the box.
Sara looked from the beautiful ring up to Micahel. He saw the tears in her eyes as she leaned in to kiss him. Her lips met his for a passionate kiss. Michael was the first one to pull away. "So I'll take that as a yes." he said smiling.
"Yes" she said blusing as she realized all the screaming yes in her head never made it to her lips.
"Good." he replied taking hte ring from its box and putting it on her finger. Michael stood up and went to sit in his chair never letting go of her hand. The manager knew about the plan and saw Michael put the ring on Sara's finger. That was his cue. He walked up to the table with a silver platter of chocolate covered stawberries.
"Congratulations to the happy couple."
