Last week when Danielle came over, Finn went into hysterics about her when she came in the door. (He likely remembers her from when they used to dogsit him.) After jumping about like crazy he rolled over on his back to present his belly for scritching.
Jack took this opportunity to introduce himself to Danielle by pointing out that Finn possesses a "PENIS. PENIS." That's my kid, what a charmer.
He has also gravely informed me about the fact that everyone else in the house has a penis but me.
We also have similar discussions about beards. "Daddy have a beard! Mama no have a beard." Jack will say. Then he claimed that "Jack geebe (going to be) have a beard." I told him that he could have a beard when he went to college. This started the first parenting argument that Michael and I have had--Michael had a beard in high school, and I maintain the opinion that high school guys with beards are skeezy. I countered that if Jack tries to grow a beard in high school, I will show him how lame those patchy teenage beards look, and Michael said that my efforts would be doomed to fail because MOMS DON'T GET IT. We compromised with how we will make my sister Brenna or some other younger friend/relative tell Jack his beard is skeezy if/when the time comes.
Also, as one cannot help comparing one's children:
After looking back at posts about newborn Jack, evidence suggests that even though we considered Jack a pretty easy baby, Spencer is really mellow. Jack had several fussy stages and needed to be held and walked around a lot more than Spencer does.
Also, Jack used to insist that I must have a nipple on my bicep, and would search for it by craning his neck. Spencer keeps his head in the right place but makes me have slappy fights with him--he scrabbles with his hands in front of his face such that I can't get everything aligned without holding his arms down. Then he often tries to "hang on" and ends up pulling himself off the nipple. I also have lost the baby nail clippers and am sincerely regretting that right now.
