The real valentine's day

Some people seem to have the history of Valentine's day a little wrong. It's not based on the old festival with the slayings.. (though those did take place in february and march) It's based on St. Valentine. The king, at the time, banned marriage to keep the soldiers in his army from having a families to be home sick over. St. Valentine thought that was cruel so he went ahead and married couples secretly behind the kings back.

Sounds pretty romantic to me....

http://www.history.com/minisites/valentine/ ( A video on the history channel's website in case any one wants to fact check that.)

(There is another theory about St. Valentine which I also remember learning about in school. It isn't mentioned in the video though. It had something to do with him helping Christians and is also quite romantic).

valentine's day, thought
