It's official...my eyes are getting old

I saw the eye doctor for the first time in 25 years. I'd noticed recently that when I got close enough to smooch N, she was kind of blurry. And my eyes felt like they were working really hard when I read.

Then one day a few weeks ago, I was trying to go the number off a file cabinet lock so I could order keys. I did the little dance you do when you're trying to get the right angle to block the light so there won't be glare off the lock. Then when I got close enough to read the number, it was blurry. On a hunch, I went and got the drugstore cheater glasses I've had for several years but hadn't actually ever needed. And suddenly I could read the number! Huzzah! Right?

So I finally went to the optometrist this afternoon. I have presbyopia, which is essentially Greek for 'old person's eyes'. My chief complaint is blurry vision when reading things up close, but eventually I'll have problems with stuff far away, too. Since my complaint was only for close-up stuff, the doc only prescribed reading glasses. He's not going to make me get bifocals yet. *g*

I'm actually excited about getting my glasses. I had no idea how hard my eyes were working. It's already easier to read, even with my drugstore cheaters. My real glasses, which will be here in 7-10 days, look way cooler and are actually made for my eyes, so they'll help even more. And they're purple! *g*

All I can say is it's a good thing N thinks glasses are sexy.
It seems like an appropriate time for this icon. Well, at least for sexy bad-daddy Hugh in glasses. *g*
