I now have some time to write something more than a paragraph or two.
I've been here in Mbarara for almost two weeks. Its been incredible, but yet frustrating at the same time.
I'm back at Old Faithful, which is the Source, the internet cafe of which I'm a member. Today, I'm sitting in front of Esther. I'm not up on the bible lingo, so I sort of wonder what Esther did. But anyway. The source is a bumpin today.
Uganda is so green. I've been lucky to get the opportunity to travel to a lot of rural villages with my placement. I've never seen such scenery before. Its absolutely gorgeous. I hope that my pictures turn out. This place is so green and lush and full of beautiful trees and other vegetation. Things have been going really well. Upon our trips to the rural areas with MBADIFA (Mbarara District Farmer's Association) I am getting the chance to interact with many locals and learn what it is like to be a farmer here in Southern Uganda.
I've attended a couple of workshops htat have been very interesting. I've also toured around and visited a few organic farms that have made farms in Canada pale in comparison. Its rather amazing to see.
The people are absolutely amazing. Possibly the friendliest I"ve ever met. Every where I go, I am offered something. It is just incredible. These people don't have very much but yet they are so willing to drop everything and show me around their place and give me bananas that they've grown or juice that they've made themselves. ITs just a really amazing experience.
Its also frustrating in a sense that it is so remote at times. The place where I'm staying ahs a dog and he was just recently bitten by a snake and they couldn't get the anti venom. In Canada that just wouldn't have happened because we have the access to all of that sort of stuff. So the owners were pretty much ready to just let him die. To me, that was just so frustrating. There's just other things similar to that where I just think....wow...if this was done it'd be a little more effective. But then there are also times where I think, if it was like this in Canada it would be so much better.
This coming weekend we are travelling to the Queen Elizabeth National Park - which is full of traditional African wildlife, so I"m really excited about that.
