A Musing, Elegiac

Sep 17, 2009 02:40

We had both shipwrecked off the shores of Lilliput. Chance never witnessed such a meeting! Your beauty matched only your heart and your skill.

The Dreamer took us as prisoners, to work, and we rowed in lockstep. Some of us worked until we could no longer row, and the seas took us home.

You gave us song when our spirits dimmed.

You gave us poetry when plague sickened us.

Your own beauty softened the very forms the waters reflected of us.

So I am sorry, Muse, that I was among the first to raise violence against you. You nearly succeeded in wooing the captain's kindness on our behalf, and not even your contagious beauty, nor your song, nor your poem could have saved you from the bonded men's surprise at your treacherous behavior.

Treachery cannot be tolerated above deck or below, and did not go unpunished. Please see our gratitude to you in each tug of the oars as you sink into the deep dark seas.
