...maybe this time I'll win..

I've been mulling this over and I have just a few things to get off of my chest.

GLEE
I love the show. I look forward to watching and hearing the music. I have a CD of some of the music in my car and Alex has one in his room. We think it's smart, funny, finely written and cast.
BUT! there are a couple of things I just don't care for and think bring the show down.
1. The Pregnancy Storyline
You can disagree if you like. What bothers me about this isn't the fact that Quinn is pregnant - I'm not that naive. I know that high school girls get into trouble. Duh. What bothers me is that A)She has convinced Finn that he is the father (and really is he THAT stupid?), 2)Teachers are involved with this on a level that isn't healthy - there is a big secret being kept from her parents, 3)Finn is now trapped with a girl that he's realizing that he does like, but isn't Rachel, who very well could be his soul mate, but he's a good guy and stepping up, 4)Shue's wife is involved and going to take the baby. 5)Shue is being played for a fool by his idiot crazy wife.

I just HATE this storyline. I really do. I don't find it funny. I don't think it's cool that Puckerman gets away with betraying his best friend and so does Quinn. I don't like how stupid they've written Finn on this issue. Quinn is in a truly awful predicament and her life is just slowly ebbing away. All of her dreams and possibilities for the future. Buh-bye. It bothers me that at least one of the responsible adults in the show isn't counseling her to formally give the baby up for adoption or *gasp* get rid of it. Grrrr.

I dread when it all comes to a head (I'm sure at the season finale). Who isn't going to be hurt by this? Except maybe Rachel. Ahh darling Rachel. But I mean Shue is going to be devastated - or what? Are we really supposed to assume that he's going to buy whatever nonsense his wife tries to do in order to get his hands on a baby?

2. Shue is really still married to the crazy.
The above just ties into this peeve of mine. It isn't funny. It doesn't play well with me when he buys her crap and just looks the other way. The man isn't stupid...or is he?! I thought for sure he'd wise up and get rid of her (pregnant or not) when she was at the school and giving his students the drugs. But no no no. Are you kidding me? He's realizing that he feels more for Emma all of the time. And while I appreciate the fact that he hasn't followed those urges and betrayed his wife in that way - the reality is that in his heart he is. And he needs to get away.

I think its obvious now that Emma isn't going to go through with her marriage to Coach Ken (right?!). Well I think so after the last episode anyway. And it just seems to me that Shue needs a good bitchslap to just get his brain unscrambled. Because his wife is a dumb, crazy, woman that brings NOTHING to the table. Other than her complaints. I realize that he thinks she's pregnant and doesn't want to abandon her - which of course bothers me due to the whole messed up storyline with Quinn and Finn. And I see the parallels between Finn and Shue finding themselves stuck...but dammit. See..just because you feel stuck doesn't mean you have to be stuck. And as much value as I place on Family, I have also BEEN THERE. Getting unstuck is so much healthier. (And can be funnier!)

Those are my biggest peeves and they do bleed into each other. And I realize that I probably wasn't very grammatically correct. I realize I probably babbled a little incoherently. But I hope you get the gist. Because I watch this show with my son. And there is so much to appreciate and enjoy. So much to love. There are good lessons within to learn. But really? These 2 issues stick out like sore thumbs to me and I feel it's . . . lame storytelling and LAZY on the writers' part to have it be this way. With such an otherwise smartly written show, I just expect more.

Lastly, I would love to see LESS Rap/Hip Hop in the show. I LOVED it when they did the mash up with rock with r&b/hip hop. That was truly awesome. But I'm not a fan of Rap and wish to see less of it. While I get that this is a show set in a high school where kids DO listen to that type of "music", it doesn't mean I want it shoved down my throat as often as they do. I think it takes something away from the quality of the show. Every once in a while sure. . . watching Matthew Morrison sing "Bust a Move" was fun and a flashback to my clubbing days. But when I had to watch him rap "Thong Song"..I wanted to smack my head into the wall. That man has so much talent..I'd like to see him SING more please. Please?!

I'm all caught up on Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries and I'm just loving them. I haven't laughed so hard (the last 2 eps of Supernatural) in a long time. I LOVED seeing the formerly hunky Chad Everett in action. Oh man I have childhood memories of drooling over him on Medical Center..yeah I know. I'm OLD. But he really nailed Dean's character and it was just AWESOME. Plus...continuity with the Trickster. AWESOME! And as for Vampire Diaries - damn you Damon! LOL That's all I'm going to say about THAT.

I bought a much smaller desk chair for my bedroom. My old chair was much larger and what not - but in this space it just didn't work. I have done some damage to the wall on my left and could never really get comfortable enough at the keyboard for any length of time. But I found a great comfy chair on sale at Staples and bought it yesterday. SO glad I did. I have much more space available to me in the room, I'm not jammed up on the wall, and my back is actually getting more immediate support. Winner all around! I'm going to post a pic of the 2 chairs side by side just to give you an idea! (And NO that is NOT my room. The big chair is now in Alex's room. MY room is much cooler!)

Lastly, my thoughts turn today to our Veterans. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

p.s. Those aren't really my last thoughts..I'm also trying to forstall an episode of vertigo. So I'm woozy..and? It sucks. Thank you that is all....
