Jared and Jensen aren’t mine ç_ç they belong to each other themselves. So does every other real person and/or every fictional character I mentioned here. Well, except Josh Charles, who belongs to my dear Fae and if you say otherwise she’s gonna cut your hands and feed them to her goldfish. (Yeah, I’m obviously kidding, we own nothing. ;_____;)
Numb3rs belongs to Cheryl Heuton and Nicholas Falacci, Grey’s Anatomy belongs to Shonda Rhimes, Heroes belongs to Tim Kring, LA Heat belongs to whoever its creator is, Sports Night belongs to Aaron Sorkin and Lost belongs to JJ Abrams.I really don’t mean to offend anyone and nothing of what I wrote in this story is to be considered real, it’s all fiction.
Author’s Notes: Okay, so…first thing. You don't need to know the shows I put in this story, so don't worry about that. I know it sounds crazy to mix up real people and fictional characters. But trust me, I had a hell of a lot of fun writing this, and if you give it a chance, maybe you’ll enjoy reading it! ^_-

“You sure we’re supposed to put strawberries in a Tiramisu?” Jared asked with a raised eyebrow, looking completely unconvinced by the content of the bowl.
“We wouldn’t be supposed to if it was a regular Tiramisu.” Jensen let out an amused chuckle, pouring the sugar and the brandy over the strawberries, then he put the bowl on the table and turned. “But this is a variation of the traditional Tiramisu, so we’re supposed to.”
Jared tried to steal some of the fruits from the bowl, but Jensen slapped his hand away.
“You’re evil.” Jared pouted, eyeing his target and trying once again to get some. “You know how much I love strawberries.”
Jensen grabbed his wrist and gently pulled him away from the table. “That’s exactly why I’m baking this cake in the first place.” He closed his lips on Jared’s, while his free hand reached something on the counter behind the boy. “And why I saved some of them for you.” He placed another bowl full of sliced strawberries between them and saw a wide smile spread quickly on Jared’s lips.
Without a word Jared kissed him again moving the bowl slightly to the side. “You’re awesome.”
“Of course I am.” Jensen grinned as they broke the kiss, and stepped back. “Now sit there and eat your strawberries. And don’t steal mine.”
Jared took a huge spoonful of the fruit and stuffed it in his mouth, then muttered something, sitting on the chair next to where Jensen was working.
“Which is the Jaredian for?” Jensen chuckled and reached for the eggs and the bottle of brandy.
Jared laughed and almost choked himself with a piece of strawberry. Jensen patted him on his back and shook his head. “I said, you learned it from your mother?” Jared asked when his mouth was empty enough to let Jensen actually understand what he was saying.
“Yep.” Jensen looked at him and smiled. “My sister Mac loves this cake and my mother used to bake it whenever she got a bad mark at school, to cheer her up.”
“How old is she?” Jared asked, not used to hear Jensen talk about his family.
“Fifteen. A pretty crazy age to be. I mean, teenagers? Such a pain in the ass.” Jensen flashed a grin to his boyfriend, who stuck out his tongue to him.
“I thought you liked my craziness.” Jared mirrored the grin and stuffed another spoonful of strawberries in his mouth.
“Oh, I do.” Jensen took the mascarpone and started to add it to the eggs. “Actually, I love it.”
Jared was about to say something but the doorbell rang and Jensen frowned. The younger boy started to stand, but Jensen stopped him, then wiped his hands on the apron and took it off, heading for the door. “Mix it, slowly.” He said, pointing at the bowl with the mascarpone.
Jared shrugged and muttered something similar to ‘Okay’, putting his own bowl on the table.
Jensen reached the door and looked in the peephole, surprise making his frown deepen. Slowly he unlocked it and opened, finding himself face to face with the man standing outside his apartment.
“Hey, Jensen.” The man’s voice was cautious and unsure and the boy was surprised to hear that.
“What are you doing here?” Jensen’s tone sounded more curious and less bitter than he wanted it to, but he didn’t say anything else.
“May I…” The man gestured towards the inside of the apartment.
“I don’t think it’s a good idea.” Despite his own words, Jensen moved to the side to let him in. He was sure it was going to be a mistake, but his instinct told him to give the man a chance.
“Jen, who’s at the door?” Jared came out of the kitchen with a spoon in his hand and a frown on his face.
“Is he the reason why you think me being here isn’t a good idea?” The man asked with a chuckle.
Jensen sighed and turned to look at him in the eye. “Dad, this is my boyfriend, Jared.”
The sheer shock on Jared’s face would have made Jensen laugh if he hadn’t felt exactly the same.
“Wait, your…dad?”
~
The silence was tense and deafening as the three of them sat in the living room, Jensen and Jared on the couch and Alan on the armchair next to it.
“So, you’re Jensen’s boyfriend?” Alan asked with a careful tone, looking at Jared.
“I am.” Jared looked at him in the eye, trying to figure out how to move around that unexpected meeting.
“How old are you?” Alan seemed genuinely curious and Jensen was surprised about his father’s behavior. When he’d left home years before the man hadn’t even said goodbye and now he was sitting in his living room, asking about his boyfriend.
“Dad, why did you come here?”
“I…” Alan started, not sure of his own words. “I think we should discuss it privately.”
“No.” Jensen shook his head, confused and angry. “If you have something to tell me, you can say it in front of Jared.”
“It’s okay, Jen. Really.” Jared said, not looking at Alan. “I…I should check the dough, anyway.” He stood and excused himself with a nod, walking towards the kitchen.
“Dough?” Alan asked with a raised eyebrow.
“We were baking.” Jensen replied with a flat tone. “Mom’s strawberry Tiramisu.”
Alan showed a little smile at that. “You’ve always loved it.”
“Yeah. Makes me feel like I’m back home.” Jensen looked away and bit on his tongue. He missed home sometimes, but his father was the last person he wanted to tell that.
“Jensen.” Alan waited for the boy to turn again towards him. “Your mother…she told me about the accident in Seattle, just before she came there.”
“So?”
“I wasn’t there.”
“I never expected you to be.” Jensen looked at his father in the eye, not trying to hide the bitterness. “I’ve been through hell in the past four years, you have no idea what happened to me while I was here, you’ve never even tried to call, so yeah, I didn’t expect you to care when I almost died in a car crash thousands miles from home.”
Alan didn’t say anything for a few seconds, but Jensen saw something in his eyes he’d never thought he would have seen, guilt.
“That’s why I’m here, son.” Alan looked at him in the eye again as he talked. “I wanted to tell you that….that I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you.” He looked down and hesitated before talking again. “When I married your mother I swore to her and to myself nothing was gonna divide our family, ever.” The man looked up again and Jensen bit back his bitter reply when he saw the plain hurt in his father’s eyes. “I just…I never thought I was such…such a coward. I never thought I would have turned my back to one of my sons ‘cause I couldn’t understand him, ‘cause he was different from me.”
“I’m still different from you, dad.”
“And I still don’t understand you, Jensen. But you’re my son, and you almost died.”
“So you’re feelin’ guilty and you came here ‘cause you want your conscience to be clean, you know, just in case I end up dead because of my sick habits?” Jensen felt all the repressed rage come back to the surface and he did nothing to repress it again.
“I do feel guilty.” Alan admitted, keeping their gazes locked. “But I’m here ‘cause I want to understand, I want to know you.” He looked down at his hands. “When I thought you might have died I realized that no matter what choices you make, you’re my son. And I love you.” He looked up again and Jensen felt his heart clench at his father’s words. He’d wanted, he’d needed so desperately to hear them. “I’m not saying it’s gonna be easy, but I don’t want to lose my son, no matter who he sleeps with.”
“Can you actually deal with the fact that I’m in love with a boy?”
“I’m pretty sure I can manage to.” Alan showed a little smile. “I’ve been trying to get my mind around it since the day you told me, Jensen. And I’m sorry it took me four years and your accident to deal with that.”
Jensen didn’t say anything for a few seconds, he just turned his gaze to his own hands and tried to process all that conversation.
“Things are quite complicated right now.” Jensen said without looking up. “But I guess we should give it a try.” He looked at his father and showed a little smile, whishing he was doing the right thing.
Alan’s smile widened and he threw a glance towards the kitchen door. “So…he’s young.”
“Eighteen.” Jensen reply, not entirely sure if he had the right to tell his father what Jared’s family had done to him.
“You don’t really want to talk about him, uh?”
“Not yet.” Jensen showed a little smile. “It’s just…he had troubles and…it’s something I have no right to tell anyone. But we’re happy together.”
“That’s enough for me.” Alan nodded, looking again at the kitchen. “Maybe you could come home for a few days, bring…” He paused, trying to remember.
“Jared.” Jensen said, holding back a smile. So like his father to forget the name so quickly.
“Bring Jared with you.” Alan finished with a tentative glance to his son.
“Yeah, maybe.” Jensen nodded, his gaze not meeting his father’s.
“Jensen.”
“Yeah?”
“You said things are complicated right now. What’s going on? What happened in the last four years?” Alan looked genuinely worried, and Jensen sighed, knowing that sooner or later he would have to tell his father. It was better to drop the bomb immediately.
“I was raped.”
~
Jensen wasn’t sure what had happened in the following minutes. Alan had paled and he’d remained sat in the armchair, not saying a word, his gaze fixed on the floor. Jensen could tell his mind was trying to process the new information, and suddenly he regretted telling him so abruptly.
His father, the last person he expected to talk to, his father was the first one to hear those words from his lips. He’d never said them out loud before, he’d let Jared read his journal just so he wouldn’t have to actually say he’d been raped.
As he looked at his father trying to snap out of the shock he knew why he’d done that, and it just made him feel worse. He was trying to hurt him, to make him pay for something he was already sorry for. His father had come there to try and set a fresh start, he’d come there to apologize for leaving him alone when he needed his family the most. He felt his stomach curl and fought back the need to throw up.
“I’m sorry.” Jensen whispered, not looking at his father. “I shouldn’t ha…”
“When?” Alan asked suddenly, looking directly at his son.
“About a year ago.” Jensen replied, feeling his father deserved to know more. “I…I had a boyfriend and…he…” He took a deep breath, still not looking at the man. “He was rather…possessive. He used to…he was the wrong guy. The abusive kind of wrong guy, but I…I loved him and I was scared and when I tried to leave him, he…” Jensen took one last deep breath. “He raped me.” When his father didn’t reply he looked up tentatively, and bit on his lower lip. “I don’t remember it ‘cause of the accident and the memory loss, but I…I know it happened.”
“Who’s that fuckin’ son of a bitch?” Alan looked up and Jensen saw rage and hurt in his look. He’d never seen his father like that, not even when he’d told him he was gay.
“His name is Nathan.” Jensen barely managed to keep eye contact. “Nathan Petrelli.”
“Wait, Nathan Petrelli? The business man who killed his wife and went to jail?” Something else was in Alan’s eyes now, worry, fear maybe.
“Yeah.” Jensen frowned and felt a knot forming in his throat. “You know him?”
“Not exactly.” Alan shook his head, confused. “Not personally, but…he had a pretty big company back in Texas.”
“Really?” Jensen didn’t remember much about Nathan, and Eric hadn’t told him much either.
“Yeah, Primatech Paper. It got involved with some federal investigation a few months ago.”
“For what?” Jensen felt his heart skip a beat.
“I’m not sure. Why?”
“You’re not gonna like it. I…I passed information to the LAPD some time ago, for counterfeit money.” Jensen explained, looking away again. Now it came the other bad news. “About a guy called Michael Weatherly, and now this guy…somehow he found out and he…he paid someone to kill me. Maybe it’s related to Primatech Paper.”
“Oh God, Jensen, what the hell did you get yourself into?”
“I don’t know, dad. Things are just so damn complicated right now.” Jensen met his father’s eyes and sighed. “That’s why I needed my family so much. I’m in a shitload of trouble, and I have no idea how I’m gonna come out of this alive.” He bit on his lower lip and looked towards the kitchen door. “If I made it ‘til now it’s just thanks to Jared. And my friends.”
Alan stood and reached the couch, sitting down next to Jensen and resting a hand on his shoulder.
“I’m sorry, son. I…I had no idea…” Alan stopped, taking a deep breath. “We’re here now. Your family’s here.”
“Don’t tell mom.” Jensen asked, worried. “She…she’d freak out and I don’t want…she already went through a lot.”
Alan was about to say something but the phone rang, and Jensen stood to answer. He reassured the agents everything was fine and that he’d received a visit but all was okay.
“I…I think I should go, now.” Alan said, standing as well, as soon as Jensen put down the cordless phone.
“You’re gonna stay longer?”
“A couple of days, I guess.”
“Maybe you could…you know, you could stick around and stay for dinner.” Jensen said, looking at him with an unsure glance.
“I’d love to.” Alan smiled widely at that and approached his son. “I have a few commissions to make, but I can come back, if you really want me to.”
Jensen didn’t reply immediately, thinking about that for a couple of seconds. “Yeah, I really want you to.”
“Okay, then.” He walked towards the door, then stopped, turning to Jensen. “Thank you, son. For this chance.”
“I need it as much as you do, dad.” Jensen showed a little smile and his hand went up to squeeze his father’s shoulder as they eyes met. God, he hadn’t felt like that for years, and maybe it was too early to celebrate about it, but he couldn’t help it. He felt like the pieces of his life were going back to their places.
~
As the door closed, Jared felt the tension slowly leave his shoulders. He hadn’t heard the conversation between Jensen and his father, and the boy seemed calm; the man had looked a bit shaken, though.
When Jensen came back to the kitchen Jared wasn’t sure how to ask him, and he simply waited.
“I invited him for dinner. Is…” Jensen looked at him with a cautious look. “Is that a problem?”
Jared didn’t reply immediately, surprised by Jensen’s words. When he saw a shadow of guilt in the boy’s eyes he quickly shook his head. “No, not at all. Not if things are good between you two.” Jared reached him and showed a little smile. “They are?”
“I…yeah, I think they’re gonna be good.” Jensen’s lips curved into a soft smile. “He…he apologized, he asked for another chance.” He still couldn’t believe the conversation he’d just had with his father. The first after four years. “He’s changed, I can tell that. And…I need this. I need my family.”
“You told him about…” Jared didn’t finish the sentence, knowing that Jensen was aware what he was talking about.
“Yeah.” Guilt came back in his gaze and Jared wondered what they had said to each other. “I’ve been a bit…harsh on the subject. But he…he took it better than I thought.”
“It’s gonna be okay. It’s just a matter of time.” Jared sounded sure and Jensen smiled to him, grateful.
Without saying anything else he retrieved the apron and looked around. The bowl with the dough was on the table and the remaining ingredients near it.
“Okay, then, let’s finish this cake.” Jensen announced, gaining a perplexed smile from Jared. “Oh, and my father invited us to Texas, one of these days.” He added with a grin, seeing his boyfriend’s eyes widen. Not that he really planned on going there very soon, at least not before closing the Weatherly thing.
~~
The Tiramisu was in the fridge and the dinner was almost ready when the doorbell rang.
“He’s very early. You didn’t take after him for that.” Jared teased walking towards the door. Jensen shot him a sarcastic smile, then resumed his work. Despite the conversation with his father and the bad feeling it had left to him about Nathan, Jensen had gotten his good mood back.
Jared looked in the peephole and frowned, opening the door slowly. “Agent Eppes? Something’s wrong?”
“I think it’s better if we talk inside.” Don addressed him a polite smile and Jared moved to let him, Megan and Chase in.
Jensen appeared on the kitchen doorstep and his smile slowly turned into a frown. “Agents. Something’s wrong?”
“We need to ask you a couple of questions.” Don explained as Jensen gestured them to sit in the living room, doing the same. Jared was standing next to him, but sat down with a worried look on his face.
“Sure. About what?”
“Do you know Nathan Petrelli?” Megan asked with a cautious tone.
Jensen didn’t reply immediately, trying to keep a straight face. “Kinda.” At those words Chase’s eyebrows shot up, and Jensen sighed. “Yeah, I do.”
“How?” Don asked, confusion clear on his face.
Jensen knew he had to tell them everything, from the Crimson to the night he’d left Nathan. He felt Jared shift closer to him and suddenly he felt cornered. He had no way out, he had to tell them and he had to do it in that moment.
The touch of Jared’s hand on his thigh was soft and reassuring, and Jensen sighed again.
“When I came here from Texas I ended up working for Weatherly at a strip club named Crimson.” Jensen started, seeing Don nod slowly. “He…He introduced me a friend, Petrelli, and…” He hesitated, looking away from the man and resting his hands on the table. He had the extreme need to touch something, to release the tension. “We had a relationship.”
“How long did it last?” Don seemed surprised but kept his tone professional.
“Two years.” Jensen looked back at him and his hands closed in tight fists. “I…We broke up an year ago.”
“Did you know that Weatherly worked with Nathan Petrelli before coming here in LA?”
“I…I don’t know.” Jensen admitted, confused. “There’s a lot I don’t remember about these four years and I…maybe I knew, I can’t be sure.”
Don nodded again and didn’t say anything for a few seconds, just studying Jensen.
“Weatherly came here in LA from Odessa about an year before you did. He worked for Primatech Paper, Petrelli’s company.”
“What?” Jared almost yelled, shocked. “You sure about that?” He looked at Jensen, then at the agents.
“Yeah.” Don studied his reaction. “What?”
Jared didn’t reply for a few seconds, not daring to look at Jensen again as he finally talked. “I…my father’s the lead lawyer for that company.”
“Your…your father works for…for Nathan?” Jensen asked, trying to make eye contact with Jared, but the boy kept looking straight ahead.
“You know Petrelli too?” Chase asked, confused.
“No, I…I’ve never been interested in my father’s job, I…I had no idea…”
Don looked at Jared, then focused on Jensen again. “How did your relationship end?”
Jared didn’t need to look at Jensen, he felt the boy tense and silently brought his hand back to Jensen’s leg.
“Is this really necessary?” Jensen asked with a cold tone.
“We need to know if Petrelli could be a threaten to you as much as Weatherly and his man are.” Megan explained, knowing it was going to raise questions.
“But…he’s in jail.” Jared said, frowning. “I mean, why would he…” He stopped, his face paling suddenly.
“His lawyer made the request for parole. It’s very likely the court will give its agreement.”
Jensen felt a huge knot in his throat and he looked straight in Don’s eyes. “They’re gonna let him out?”
“He’s a very influent man. And he has a good lawyer.” Chase replied, his eyes fixed on Jared with an eloquent look.
Jensen looked at him, then at his boyfriend, rage rising in his chest.
“They’re gonna let him fuckin’ out?”
“I know this might be…” Megan started, but Jensen stopped her, standing.
“You don’t know anything. They’re letting him walk out! That fuckin’ son of a bitch killed his wife, he…he raped me and they’re letting him out!” At those words both Megan and Don’s confused expressions turned into concerned frowns.
“You never reported it?”
“No.” Jensen turned to look at them, then sighed. “It was humiliating enough without making a fool of myself in front of a court.” He looked away and for several seconds he didn’t say anything, then turned again. “I think…I think it’s better if you leave now.”
“Okay.” Don nodded slowly, standing from the couch. “But I think it would be safer if one my agents stuck around. At least until we find who the merc is.”
Jensen simply nodded and Don watched him, visibly worried. “We’ll keep in touch.”
Jared walked the agents to the door, but the only one who left was Don. Megan was supposed to stay and Chase wanted to make sure Jensen was fine before going. With a little smile Jared showed Megan the way to the kitchen, and McDonald went back to the living room.
“I thought you were going.” Jensen said when he saw Chase. “I don’t exactly feel like talking right now.”
“I know, but…” He took a deep breath and went on. “Maybe you should think again about Jared, you really know him that well?”
Jensen didn’t have the time to reply because Jared came back in the room, an angry look on his face. “Shut the fuck up.” He reached Chase and shook his head. “You’re the one who got him in this.”
“That’s not any of your business.”
“You think?” Jared asked, furious. “‘Cause those on the fridge looked like pictures of me, and Jensen is counting on me to get through this, and I am here.” Jared hissed, looking at the man in the eye. Jensen had never seen him so angry and he had to admit he could be scary if he wanted to. “What the hell were you thinking when you let him get in this shit? You were supposed to protect him!”
“Right, and you’re gonna protect him! While your father gets the man who raped him out of jail!”
“Enough!” Jensen walked towards the hallway and they heard the door of his room being slammed.
~
“Jen, it’s me.” Jared said tentatively. The two agents were in the living room and Megan was trying to convince Chase to calm the hell down.
“What do you want?”
Slowly Jared opened the door, relieved it wasn’t locked. His relief vanished when he saw Jensen sitting on his bed, the journal in his hands.
“Hey.” Jared reached him, sitting down and trying to make eye contact.
“I need to be alone right now.” Jensen stood slowly, heading out of the room and bringing the journal with him. Jensen had never refused Jared’s comfort up to that moment and Jared knew why he was doing it.
Jared quickly followed him and stopped him in the middle of the small hallway, halfway to the guest room. “Hey, talk to me.”
“I said I need to be alone.”
“No, you don’t.” Jared tried again to make eye contact, but when Jensen looked at him, he was surprised to see rage in his look.
“You know what I don’t need?” Jensen asked, trying to control his voice. “I don’t need a crazy son of a bitch trying to kill me ’cause I had a crush on a cop and I didn’t mind my own business, I don’t need my father coming over for dinner ‘cause I can’t handle it right now, I don’t need people screwing with my head, I don’t need Nathan getting out of jail!”
Jared was taken aback by that outburst and he let out an unhappy chuckle. “Well, sorry if I’m trying to find a way to help you! I really have no idea what to do or say to make you feel better, to make all this easier, I…I’m fuckin’ sorry I’m a Padalecki but the one thing I cannot do is go there and clear up what my father did! ‘Cause I think I mentioned he deleted me from his life and there’s no way he’d ever want to see me again, let alone talk or have dinner!” Jared shook his head, taking a step towards Jensen. “So yeah, sorry if I’m here trying to talk to you instead of on the phone telling him ‘Hey dad, can you put Petrelli back in jail, ‘cause he raped my boyfriend’!”
Jensen chuckled, incredulous and furious, as Jared realized what he’d said.
“Jen…” He started, but Jensen quickly stormed towards his room again. “I’m sorry.”
“Go to hell!” Jensen slammed the door behind him again, locking it.
