Pete peeks at the hallway before exiting his room, then makes a straight line to the stairs, hoping to find no interference in his way. Unfortunately, when he reaches the kitchen, his hopes are shattered and he find himself facing a very curious Myka.
“Finally,” she just offers with a vaguely amused smirk. “I was starting to wonder whether you’d ever get up from bed or not.”
“I haven’t slept much,” Pete mumbles with a dark look in her direction. “Need coffee,” he adds while he yawns, and pours two cups.
“Isn’t that a little too much?” Myka muses with a brief laughter, while he heads for the door once again.
“Need coffee,” he simply repeats and walks upstairs before she can ask him anything more.
He sneaks back into his room, trying to be as silent as possible, and glances at the sleeping figure on the bed. He rests both cups on the nightstand and lies down on his side, next to Steve.
"We overslept," he whispers to Steve’s ear with a grin, then ducks his head to kiss him on the neck. “We’re gonna be late.”
"Mmh, five more minutes?" Steve scoots closer and lets Pete’s arm circle his waist.
"I think we can manage that," Pete agrees, moving his lips down the boy’s shoulder, leaving a trace of soft kisses. "I brought you coffee," he informs with a smile, then lets his hand wander down Steve’s stomach and past his navel.
"You're bad," Steve huffs out and slaps Pete’s hand away, but keeps his eyes closed.
"You're welcome," Pete replies happily, then pinches him on the side, definitely waking him up.
“Jerk,” Steve mutters, but there’s a smile stretching his lips when he sits up. He reaches for the cup and takes a long sip from it, ignoring Pete’s perplexed look.
“I still don’t get how you can choke yourself on coffee three seconds after waking up,” Pete sounds a little disturbed as he says it, as if he feels like he shouldn’t say such a thing about his precious coffee, but at the same time, he’s appalled by the ability Steve’s stomach has to just accept anything, at any time of the day or night.
“I still don’t get how you can’t,” Steve says as he puts his mug down with a smile. “You get softer every day that passes.”
“If by softer you mean human, then yes,” Pete retorts, crossing his arms in a somewhat childish way.
“No, I mean this.” Steve gestures at the cups, then at him.
“This doesn’t make me a softie,” Pete protests, offended. “I’m just a thoughtful guy.”
“Yeah, right,” Steve agrees, a little condescending, but Pete lets it go without too much of a fuss; instead, he pushes him on his back on the bed, getting a knowing smile in reply. "I thought you said we overslept."
"Whatever, I bet Artie won't even notice we’re late," Pete mutters against Steve’s lips, then kisses him, effectively stopping any complaints Steve may want to voice - Steve really doesn’t.
They’re lying across the bed and the sheets are crumpled beneath them, but neither cares enough to move. They kiss slowly, like there’s nothing in the world rushing them, like there’s nothing in the world except them, and it’s so different from their first rushed, stolen kisses; so different from their first kiss, when Steve backed Pete against his bedroom door and kissed him so desperately it left them both breathless.
They still have those moments, when they can’t keep their hands off each other, but this is not one of those. This is one of those times when Pete wishes they were out of a job and could afford staying in bed all day, one of those times when they both wish they didn’t need to keep it a secret. They know they probably don’t need to, not on a strictly human level, but it’s so highly unprofessional to get involved like that, they can both imagine the look on Mrs Frederic’s face if she ever found out. That given, Pete’s pretty damn sure she already knows, but he doesn’t feel the need to share this consideration with Steve, it would probably panic him.
But, mostly, it’s one of those times when Pete forgets to lock the door.
“Pete, I know you want some quality time with your caffeine, but Artie is-- whoa," Myka stops dead in her tracks when she swings the door open without as much as a brief knock.
Steve immediately pushes Pete back and sits up, looking like a deer caught in the headlights. “Uh,” he mutters, glancing at the room, then adds, “A strange lamp-shaped artifact made us do it!"
"You're lying," Myka declares and tilts her head to the side, giving him her best ‘You’ve got to be kidding me’ look.
"Hey, that's my thing!" Steve frowns, a little offended, then punches Pete in the side when the man snickers.
"Fine,” Myka accepts and crosses her arms against her chest, highly entertained by that reaction. “A strange lamp-shaped artifact also made Pete bring you coffee?"
"You're the worst liar I've ever met," Pete points out with a warm smile, and rests a hand on the small of Steve’s back, trying to be reassuring.
"Well, I'm usually on the other side," Steve blurts out, a little embarrassed.
"It's okay, guys, I don't judge,” Myka offers with a smirk, and shrugs as she adds, “You're kind of cute together."
Pete’s smile turns into a glare at those words. "Kind of-- I'm gonna kill you."
"None of you is gonna kill anyone, because Artie will end us all if you don't bring your asses down..." Claudia stops when she comes to stand next to Myka and she sees them. So much for professionalism and keeping it a secret. "...stairs. Hello."
“Great,” Steve mutters and buries his face in his hands, which prompts Pete to snicker again. This time, Steve’s punch hits him on the ribs and actually hurts a little, so he stops. Well, tries to.
“Uh, you better put on some clothes and come downstairs,” Myka suggests and gestures Claudia to go wait in the living room. “You don’t want Artie coming to look for you in person, do you?”
“Please, God, no,” Steve huffs out and shoots her a terrified look.
“Give us a minute,” Pete tells her with a slow nod, and receives one in reply.
“So, so cute,” she repeats as she closes the door, and the slipper Pete throws at her ends up hitting the wood surface instead.
“I’m never leaving this room ever,” Steve declares and lies on his back again, still covering his face.
“Do I embarrass you that much?” It’s only a half-joke and Pete can see Steve gets it immediately, because his eyes widen and he sits back up so quickly it probably makes him dizzy for a moment.
“Don’t ever say that again,” Steve mutters, deadly serious, and the hurt look in his eyes makes Pete regret opening his mouth. “It’s just-- the way they found out.”
“Well, look at the bright side, we’re not naked,” Pete offers as a consolation. “Not completely.” Steve give in to a smile at that, and scoots closer. “Even though you do make a pretty good impression naked.”
“Shut up,” Steve mumbles and buries his face against Pete’s shoulder. “Should we tell Artie?”
“I’ll do it,” Pete says, trailing a hand down Steve’s back. “But if you ever call me a softie again, I’ll send you to tell Mrs Frederic.”
“You wouldn’t,” Steve pulls back and stares at him, horrified.
“Oh, I would,” Pete tells him, then stands from the bed with a wide grin. “Better not test me on this.”
“I hate you.” Steve glares at him, unbelieving, but there’s the shadow of a smile on his lips.
“You can’t,” Pete reminds him, smug and a little amused. “I brought you coffee, remember?”
“I will kill you with a lamp-shaped artifact,” Steve threatens and throws the remaining slipper at him. Pete dodges it, then grabs his clothes and goes for the door, laughing.
After all, they have bigger secrets to keep, they really don’t need this one.

A/N: okay, so. This is my first time writing in this fandom, even though I’ve been a fan of the show for a while. It’s just that they looked so perfect together, their interaction was just spot on, and it only took me one single episode to love the idea of them together. I hope I’m not the only one. LOL
Well, let me know what you think, if you want. <3
