Adventures in Appleland

A few weeks before Thanksgiving, my dearly loved old Powerbook G4 was having problems with the display.  I would use it and there would be lines across the screen.  They would go away if I tapped lightly on the coffee table or on the couch.  Around November 20, the lines got worse and I could barely see the screen anymore. The trick of tapping no longer worked.  I talked to a friend of mine who is a Genius Administrator and he suggested that it was either the logic board or the display, but it was probably the logic board.

I was sad and am not very interested in the newest model.  I found the previous generation on clearance plus I got to use my student discount.  Andy decided to order it for me.  It got here why we were on vacation and I finally got it set up today.  That required going to the Apple store so that I could borrow a FireWire 800 cord to transfer everything from my old computer to my new computer.  That took about an hour to transfer 60 GB.  I can't imagine the horror should I have tried to use a USB cable.

During the hour at the Genius Bar, I saw 5 iPhones being replaced for various problems.  One of them had a capacitor problem in the screen, another was no longer connecting to calls, etc.  There were 15 iPhones on the back counter.  Crazy.  I'm not convinced that I want an iPhone after seeing that.
