5581: Back in Time

Oct 21, 2015 23:59

I guess I should do a retrospective or something, considering it's Back to the Future (II) day, and all!

...I can't think of a lot to say, though.

There are a handful of temps that have cycled out without me saying much, partly because that seems to be the nature of temps, and partly because I just don't have time to do all the nothing I want to do to blow more of it on writing about people that have barely been a blink in my eye. I just realized that being paid more than twice what I *was* getting paid means I could *technically* work half as long and do what I *really* want to do in the extra time... but I'm pretty sure though he doesn't say specifically, C doesn't like me and in fact barely tolerates me when I'm un(der)employed. I don't think it's a personality change in me or anything, just this implication of bad character.

Luckily, that should never be a problem again (until we're retired, maybe? ...but we'll be RETIRED).

...I was going somewhere with that.

So, I forget if I went into detail about "Auntie" here. I know it went on Facebake for a while, but I've been in a delete mode there, so why not throw it back here.

"Auntie" is another Asian(-but-not-Indian-Subcontinent-Asian) lady temping with us... or was, as I haven't seen her all this week... but then, she's vanished for some days before, despite having an almost paranoid habit of getting to work early (in her case, SUPER early, even before TLB gets in). I started doing that myself after getting the hang of morning traffic, plus being legitimately paranoid about a "fired for being two minutes late" kind of thing (think it does take a bit more than two minutes to be noticed, though), but I can't make myself get in any earlier than five, even after TLB commented on my being the first one there after himself at his reverse-roast (another story I should do if I haven't).

I call her Auntie because not a few hours after realizing she started with us, she started getting up in my case about "Are you gonna miss me??" because she was... going to the other side of the office.

Like, EVERY HOUR. "Are you gonna miss me???" Woman, I don't even know your NAME, 'cause you sure didn't INTRODUCE yourself or anything. It was like she was legit one of my semi-distant relatives I met at a reunion and somehow completely forgot and this was her way of guilting me about not answering her mail.

(read: she's not related, at least not obviously--she's Korean and I'm not aware of any Korean relatives)

I am serious that these were legitimately the only things she said to me for at least the first two weeks, once she demonstrated she knew my name even without me telling it to her:
  • "Good morning, Julie" (fair enough)
  • "Julie, I'm going over there now, are you gonna miss me?"
  • "Julie, I'm back, did you miss me?"
  • "Julie, you think I'm crazy... 'oh be quiet already!'" (a bit self-aware, and yet...)
  • (after I sneezed) "Julie, are you allergic to me already?"
  • "Julie, how do I answer the phone?" (fair enough)
  • "Julie, what's A's extension?"
  • (after copying a phone list for her) "Julie, don't you want to talk to me?" (???)
I sort of barely humoured her for a while, but well beyond the point when *I* at least should've introduced myself (you know, after she first walked to my desk and asked if I would miss her?) I figured I would learn her name eventually by mere proximity... took a month or so, but sure.

Around my "Hire" date, when I went permanent, Auntie was particularly aggravating, because Pointy-Haired Boss had specifically informed me not to talk with ANYONE about my (not?) being hired--not even Buffy, who was also on the To-Hire track (the reason for which became evident later, as she had been surreptitiously planning to give Buffy the axe (over poor performance, which I could get into but don't feel like)). Sure, I don't particularly enjoy small talk anyway, so *zips lips*

AUNTIE WOULD NOT SHUT UP ABOUT MY HIRING.

I don't even know where she got the news, unless she has like "Ears of the Wolf" or whatever, because *I* sure didn't tell her about it! EVERY FUCKING DAY, Auntie was counting down the days until I started as Perm, practically *singing* about how I would have a key to the office (and even then, I didn't for like two more days), because I was always early every day, even if by a few minutes, whereas everyone OTHER than the temps and TLB tends to show up at least five minutes LATE.

Then a new temp started, and she introduced herself immediately--"Oh, my name is Auntie." KICK IN THE TEETH. (But then, the new temp is Indian, so... weird flavour of racism??? IDK)

nngh

I guess that's not very BttF-y, but if I had anything, it's well too late to get into it now. Maybe I'll time-travel back later and retcon a post =p

bother, workpoliticrap, workcrap
