So C and I went to see Wreck-It Ralph tonight, despite his threats to go see it while I was still at work [he got waylaid by Mum, who kept him from going]. I ended up getting waylaid by THREE AND A HALF HOUR MEETING that kept me from getting home until 6:40 >_< but by that point my evening was "ruined" for arting anyway, so... oh well.
Verdict: This movie has ALL THE TROPES.
...including, of course...
...the "Woman as Trophy" trope =/ but... it's done in the least offensive way possible--the "mutual decision"--but it still comes across as imbalanced as Who Framed Roger Rabbit? [which I also love--I just hate the imbalance of bad treatments of said trope] ...so, minor gripe in an otherwise wondrous movie, I guess?
I'm gonna go ahead and call this as Movie of the Year--for me, if no one else. Sure, The Avengers was fun, but I really don't see myself going out of the way to watch it again when I only watched it the first time because C was watching it already. Certainly The Hunger Games isn't going to beat it =p and I don't know if I can take Daniel Craig drinking a Heineken-or-whatever too seriously.
Review: It's kinda like if
Dust: An Elysian Tail had been a movie [also a love letter to video games]... or possibly
Xanth, had it been exclusively about video games [SO MANY WITH THE PUNS AND THE CAMEOING]. Slightly predictable [I meant ALL the tropes] but I did mis-guess a few bits. Sonic's speaking part is silly [redundantly expository background noise]. Definitely Day One BD purchase--if I can beat C to it =B
THAT IS ALL GO SEE IF YOU CANNNNN
Edit: Two things occurred to me:
- I was TOTALLY thinking of The Dark Knight Returns when we were waiting for the movie to start, because I remember we must've accidentally gone to an IMAX showing [it was worth it], but at the same time TDKR blends in quite a bit with the prior two Nolan movies in my mind, so I can't really give it MotY considering the competition.
- Wreck-It Ralph is best described as Toy Story: the Video Game [though I like Wreck-It Ralph a little more]
NOW THAT IS ALL STILL GO SEE IT
