4350: On My Way Downtown
Three things today:
- late night Dark Ages [MASS TRASHING]
- Small Press Expo
- ONE YEAR OF DRAWRINGS COMPRETE
The drawing for the latter was ill-conceived and not actually completed, as such, at my normal time of posting, as metalfox put out an invite to dinner kinds of things last night [and I, per usual, could not scrape anything resembling a queue together], but I explained as much under the link.
SPX resulted in much money lost [and an uncharacteristic LONG TIME trying to find parking--it's like there was a convention or something!]:
I don't regret my spending, as such, because it all goes directly to artists I support [with essentially one exception per year where I buy someone's fan art [although Garage Raja's free promotional guitar picks were pretty cool [though flimsy for actual use]]]. Also, my father has been telling me to buy this one stock because it keeps going up, so I've made a couple hundred dollars just in a week. [also, they're loaded and subsidising me, so why not pass it on and get the economy circulating its lifeblood like CERTAIN POLITICIANS don't wanna do]
A whole bunch of the folks whose Kickstarters I backed were there, too! Not surprising, in retrospect, since several of them have said SPX is in the universal top three best places for independent comics [the only other I remember being TCAF, I think], but it became a little awkward to bring up in conversation as I've [thought I] backed so many that I don't remember what backer level I picked =p Keith Knight asked me what level I picked so I could claim my prizes, but it turns out it was just the actual still-in-progress book and a comic original [of which I didn't see that he had any this time], so I guess I'll have to wait after all--too bad, since I would've really liked to save everyone having to mail my stuff if possible.
I also deliberately set a record. Anyone want a free book? [giving them away was the idea, yes, and thinking maybe I should have gone overboard and bought fifteen for the fuck of it, but I only have so much backpack and non-squish-everything-else-inside space]
Um... and things. I could tell a story about everyone I met, but I haven't done a draw thing tonight, and I don't wanna be one of those types who reaches a goal and STOPS cold turkey... that's how I got so behind on various comic attempts =(
