4227: Whiling the Hours away

May 15, 2012 00:49

So there was this holiday or other on Sunday, and we went to PA for shenanigans, I forgot to mention. While there, we broke out the long-neglected Pandemic [not this one*, but this one] and [re-]introduced it to Thomas and his girlfriend. Though we started on BabyIntroductory level, we lost at the end by virtue of realizing we had no way to get the fifth yellow card before the deck ran out--and, to add insult to injury, hit the eighth outbreak about the same time. Oh well, not a lot we could have done--the game seems to almost always chain wherever we DON'T head it off at the pass.

[It always seems there are turns wasted on housekeeping--that is, "just" knocking off cubes that aren't a threat--but if I say that, the non-threats are the ones that will crop up in a hurry. Best I figure, whatever colour(s) come up the most before the first Epidemic are the ones to watch, while Blue was really just a waste of time for us even though there was only one and it was easy to take out from the get-go.]

Then, since Puerto Rico takes five players, Mum joined us for a game--with me as Governor YET AGAIN -_- But, since it was 5p, I threw my hands up in the air sometimesand took Builder for early Tobacco. Felt like a lot of thrown-away turns, as a result, but it got down to C and me for score.Me: I have 47.
C: 57.
Me: ?
C: *recounts* 47. What do you have?
Me: 47.
C: Then I win on tie-break 'cause I have a dubloon.
Me: *recounts* Wait, I have 24 chips, not 20. [Customs House = 1 pt/4 VP chips] I have 48.
C: Then you win.
Me: WOO *fistpump*
=D I mean, I don't believe I've EVER won as Governor, not even with n00bs at the table. So yay ^o^

Also, yay maybe I can go to bed before 1:30a tonight =_=

*About Pandemic 2.5: It's an unfortunately identically-named game that does exactly the opposite of what the board game version does. The goal is to design your own strain of transmittable bacteria/virus/parasite to eradicate the entire human race. Between the two, I'm certain the board game has a bigger trademark imprint at stake, but I don't know much about that beyond that I threw $1 at the wrong game. [To be fair, TEH GOOGLE says there was a "real" iOS Pandemic in the works--I just got the wrong one without thinking maybe there would be a name thief.]
