4196: Short Order Cooks

Apr 14, 2012 02:26

I did some good things, and I made some mistakes. The mistakes weren't TOO bad, but I think they're the kind that count as "dings" in somebody's notes. You know, like when the interviewer decides you won't get the job because you fidgeted too much or said you liked dubstep or something.

Mistakes:
- Apparently, leaving work before 5:36p, which is when my supervisor [I think she's going to end up being "Falco" for reasons I can't explain even to myself] called me before realizing I was long gone, since she also sent an e-mail regarding the luncheon thing I was supposed to help her with today that I didn't know I was helping her with until said e-mail I read at 8:30a this morning. I mean, I know she's pretty laidback about things, but it kinda helps to know things in advance?
- Regarding said luncheon thing, since Ruok was out, and Falco had a last-last-minute doctor's appointment first thing in the morning, that meant the reception desk wasn't being manned. I realized this particularly when someone I hadn't met [to my hazy knowledge] came by and asked if I was aware I was helping Falco--I mentioned the luncheon thing, but he meant sitting at the front desk. I kinda fumbled my words and, without getting to the important part of how I don't know how to work the phones, said, "I was hired to just do scanning." He looked up at one point and said he could get someone he noticed to do it instead, but I get the impression I gave the not-a-team-player impression of, "OH GAD NO WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE ASKING OF ME" =(
- [Especially since Falco came back anyway and, while I did end up sitting there for a few minutes, it was thankfully call-free and my phone-phobia was a nonissue. But I realize I am full of unaddressed anxieties.]
- Went third for grabbing food--I know it's rude for the host to eat first [and I kinda counted as host, since I helped set up, besides not being part of the meeting], which is why I refused when Falco said I should grab something before the meeting people did, but I feel like it was still rude that I went sooner than most of the actual meeting people when they similarly deferred rushing to get in line. I know they prolly don't care, particularly since there was still so much leftover, but I hate feeling greedy, especially over food.
- Spilled salad when migrating food to the break room. Oh well, at least it's not milk?
- Didn't get cookies from the executive catered lunch at any time that would've been remotely appropriate. Apparently those were cleaned out by the executives =| [or maybe the vultures snapped those up first?]

Good things:
- ...I helped? =|
- Well, I mean, I still think no one's really particularly concerned with what I'm doing there, which is weird, but at least I actually kinda enjoy the job other than the trying to sort and name files [the only part that makes me SO SLEEPY], so I'm actually getting quite a bit done even if maybe not at the pace I *could* be doing if I had a penny-pinching micromanager hovering over me like at Poker Face's place ¬_¬ [though, out of fairness to Poker Face, they're too small to afford to be so spendthrift with employee pay and benefits]
- Not superficially, though, Falco seemed to like my suggestion [really, it was a request] for a cart to put all the food on, since we were supposed to be moving it all around. [I was thinking more that I didn't want to be carrying cans of soda long distances... BY HAND. I've dropped them before--even when they were still boxed.] I guess I gave her "ideas"? Huh. I figured it'd be obvious.
- ...yeah, I really thought I had more than the one good idea. Maybe "just being there" is enough? *shrug* I mean, it's hard thinking I'm doing that great a job when I don't even SEE Falco most days.

SO to sum up, TWO catered lunch meetings I helped set up = too much food = free all day meals! Even if everything else went wrong with the world, at least there was that... free lunch.

[not really]

[[note on the "went wrong" link: Is Arizona trying for a teen pregnancy rate of 100%? Because that's what the law would technically declare.]]

[[[UGH]]]

Time for my apparently much-put-off weekly sleep =_= I had some other things to discuss, but that cnzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
*snort*huhWAIT WAIT OH YAH

Apparently there is an archery snob at work. I overheard only half the conversation, though, so I'm not certain why he refuses to [pay to] see The Hunger Games [other than being an archery snob, but I don't know how [in]accurate the archery is in THG], but the bits I picked up were something about how Suzanne Collins wrote it and is a woman [derp?], and the much-aforementioned "It's basically the same as Battle Royale." So... not sure if I care to ask what the parts I missed were that make THG so unworthy of a paid viewing, but it likely could be the same as mine--no time, don't think it's worth $15 a viewing. BUT I WILL HAVE NO IDEA BECAUSE I REFUSE TO ADMIT TO EAVESDROPPING EVEN ON ACCIDENT

IF IT WEREN'T FOR MY HORSE, I WOULDN'T HAVE SPENT THAT YEAR IN COLLEGE

foody, booky, adebuh?, snobby, bullshit, politicrap, workcrap, whataworld
