4006: Brick by Boring Brick

Oct 07, 2011 01:54

I'm narrowing down what's wrong with when I obliterated all the Adobe crap on my computer yet somehow Acrobat 8.0 Pro persisted [in a never-functional state], but I'm starting to think a complete wipe is what it will take to finish the job and make my programs install correctly again, vs. this bullshitty "Setup has an error and cannot be completed."

Too bad Win7 was preinstalled. Not sure I feel like downgrading to XP, as much as I still don't exactly love Win7, but since it's not Vista, it's not a bridge I particularly want to burn. Yet.

Points of "interest":
  1. Apparently it is #winning to get the first comment on Willis comics when they go live at 00:01 M-F [as appropriate]...? News to me!
I dunno. I just do it because I can, like how that one weirdo comments GRITS on all the Baldo en Español comics, and Comment Attack! deliberately limits the time I spend doing at least one thing [or I'd be reading comments all day, which is an oft-crapful time sink]. Also, I like to think it helps my wit to try to come up with a good comment AND have it be first [unlike these assholes who just post "FIRST" even when they aren't].

No, I don't think I'll inform them on the "s/he" thing--even if it seems obvious to me that "Jen Aside" is a female name, I could conceivably be a guy RPing a girl, so whutevs.
  2. Our boiler is on the fritz [much less fun than Internet pseudo-contests], which means--since apparently the earliest a mechanic can come out to look at it is TWO WEEKS FROM NOW--checking/relighting the pilot light every two hours. Which is awesome, 'cause I totally love bending over a cobwebby floor and getting my hair in it just to see if there's a little blue flame just out of visibility unless I'm lying face completely to the floor.
  3. "No Breasts No Requests" [via Paul Oakenfold, lol]
  4. [[LOL Oakenfold?]]
  5. I have a phone interview tomorrow! ^o^ ...which makes... four total since the end of April? =( Aagh, would be nice to have some kind of progress!
So anyway, I've done NO drawing other than a little bit of futzing in Photoshop Ancient™* while waiting for downloads that aren't happening [damn it Dan and his bandwidth-eating Netflix!] and the same old sketches, which means there will very likely be no comic this week--my first complete whiff. Even if I get everything back up and running tomorrow, that will actually not leave nearly enough time to do comic AND sketches [only one in the queue at this point], and if I'm going to whiff, I'd rather it be the thing with less at stake.

*since that's all that will apparently get around whatever setup error won't let me install ANY Adobe CS 1 or later products >_<

I mean--really, neither has much at stake, but I feel more invested in the sketches, especially with Photoshop Ancient™ not performing nearly up to snuff. See below for an example of doodling while running the program on a high-end computer:

Sucks, doughnut? XB This is what I put up with from before... I don't even remember which comic it was now, because most of my time was spent fixing tiny line details to make it look like I was drawing with a better-performing program ¬_¬

Ironically, the person who convinced me that Manga Studio--bequeathed to her as a gift--isn't very good from her initial impressions of it ["It's gotten so I can tell when something was drawn in Manga Studio, and I haven't even used Manga Studio"] is doing a good job of selling me on it.

But I loathe drawing in pure black-and-white [literally, only "#000000" and "#ffffff"], which isn't to say MS doesn't have colour support but, from what she described, it's aimed purely at illustrators, where I want to do a more painterly thing like Diaz. Maybe I fail it by relying on it so heavily, but I like the anti-aliasing.

I basically need convincing that X is better, and to be shown how [to convert all my backups to X].

Anyway, I should bed, since last night was miserable [and if I learn from it, I'll just stay up when I wake up at 7:40a instead of toss and turn until I fall asleep for an hour before waking up again and repeating until 1:30p...], but with the way things have been going, I don't really expect much.

At least I figured out that fucking menu thing. I never knew being a righty was so obnoxious.
