So I did go to this thing [first thing mentioned in the
chat, since I don't know how long the
ArtSpace description will last for posterity] and met and greeted Nick Galifianakis [cousin of that Zack guy in The Hangover and etc. but better known for drawing the cartoons that go with
Carolyn Hax's column]. Or, for you head-scratchers, the guy who draws these:
The above is the last published cartoon of Zuzu, Nick's dog, before she passed away at the ripe old doggie age of 13, and a bit surprising in that the Post let him run that. As you can see, his self-insertion portrait is uncanny:
[I admit, I was expecting
this somehow... ah, deceptive upload timestamps]
Now, I had been trying to buy one of his original pieces, ideally, and this was the prime time to do it, especially since they were $70 and framed. However, when I asked for the one I wanted, the sales guy went to look for the PRINT... without asking which I meant. I know I should've said, "I meant the original," but I felt bad that he looked so diligently and seemed so proud to have found the last one just for me. Ah, well--if I'm dead set on getting an original, there's Thursday-after-next =/
I did get my requisite smiley, tho ^^
--so that made me feel greedy somehow wanting the original as well... =' I guess it's too ingrained to be as minimally-invasive as possible, like a ninja [even taking photos or
movies felt weird unless I could do it stealthily]. Is that where Jen comes from? [...sort of] That's sort of why I made myself fight rush hour to get to this, that if I keep thrusting myself into unfamiliar environments on occasion, I'll stop having nearly so many hang-ups about "I don't want this person I want to meet who's actually just another normal human being to actually notice me"... \:|
Yeah, I dunno.
Still working on getting a non-artist in there somewhere! ...besides
Tycho and assorted local friends who didn't really want to draw in it but hey, coercion 9_9
