This was also a topic I pushed to the side in the name of I-should-be-doing-something-else: The bigotry suggested by non-specific declarations of certain groups, especially out of context. Like, if I said, "Democrats are tree-huggers," it obviously requires LOTS of qualifying statements tacked on, like "not all, but enough to almost make the statement viable as fact" or "of those surveyed in Democraville" or whatever. Yes, though, being too lazy to add on all the necessary details sometimes makes general statements potentially high-bias, if not disastrous in the wrong setting [ I learned this the hard way], but at least here I'd expect to be allowed the luxury.

I do like to believe in actually-Christian Christians existing, but I also realize there are enough people Unclear on the Concept who only serve to feed the fire for Dobson's and Chick's and etc.'s outrageous outbursts, even if that wasn't the point I was trying to make. I admit I don't bother reading the comments for any On Faith columns--I did once, and it feels too much like being in EVERY OTHER INTERNET FORUM to keep doing. The main column is enough for me, 'cause those writers are who I'd expect to be something resembling an authority on the matter, not the blog trolls.
