2834: Don't Write Me Off

Jul 22, 2008 03:09

Then I remembered I prolly still had the few files I stole from the labs with their stuff, and I located someone else who had nothing to do with Coolassmusic.wav the Movie =( Most of my other classmates whose names I can find, I get either an undescriptive Classmates.com listing [for which I can sometimes tell it's not the same person, sometimes I can't], an IMDb buried credit [Gaffer/Best Boy/Animator or other unverifiable-as-who-I'm-thinking-of credit], or the usual 500000 listings for 500000 other people.

Seems coolassmusic.wav is lost to the frothing masses until I can cobble together a facsimile in FL or something =/ but I need trumpets! ...really corny '80s-ish trumpets :B [and no, I'm too polite to just repost their stuff on YouTube, even as a ploy to find somebody who knows what that tune was--I wouldn't want someone doing the same for mine]

On the subject of music, I'm astonished at how many old CDs can now be acquired for $.01 + shipping, especially from a single seller =o Of course, it depends on how cooperative* the shipper is, but goddamn, this is the strongest argument possible for never rushing out and buying new media that you can honestly wait for, especially if you're on a budget. ["You can't possibly NEED the latest Miley Cyrus album. It's not going anywhere--manage your damn debt first."]

*You may have to look into directly contacting the seller for combining shipping: I note that Amazon will not combine twenty CDs into what I would be able to ship in, at the very worst effort at packing, a $9.80 Flat Rate Priority Mail box and is instead looking to charge almost $60 for shipping what's otherwise 20 cents of merch. I mean, that's still a good deal, but not as good as it could be. [Of course, I'd pay it anyway, if my budget and guilt allowed, because Americans already complain about not being pampered enough, and I hate that--it's beneficial for everyone when you throw money at stuff that's good, vs. throwing it around at random and complaining after the fact.]

My father wrote, as promised:Hey Julie,

Scott just called me at work to let me know that he got to shake hands with Obama during his visit in the green zone* today. He said everyone was pushing and shoving to get into the room, as though he were a rock star. Must have been a Barock star.
*Note: My brother's working in Saddam's palace o_O "Green"?

About your brakes,
1. you might call around and ask how much a “brake job” would cost for a 1999 Honda civic and what would be included. They may ask what kind of brakes, and the answer would be front discs and rear drums (shoe brakes).
2. They may ask what kind of brake pads, organic or semi-metallic, and the answer would be organic (semis are more expensive).
3. Ask if the quoted price includes bleeding the system, flushing, and refilling the brake lines. This is not usually necessary, but if it’s included, why not? If it’s extra, you can skip this.
4. Ask if adjusting the parking brake tension is included. If you don’t have a problem with this, you can skip this also.

It sounded like that “local place” where you had your exhaust pipes done is a fair place, so that might be the place to check. It may be that you won’t need any work done, depending on what they find. With 58,000 miles, most likely you will need at least new brake pads for the front, which generally will include “turning the rotors,” which is removing the rotors and turning them on a lathe-like device to make them flat and flush to the brake pads. If you haven’t had any brake work done, it is probably okay to have them turned. After 3-4 times, however, this process eats into the rotors and makes them very thin and more prone to warping.

They may find that the rear brakes need work also, but it is unusual, since the front brakes take most of the wear and tear. I would guess that a total brake job, front and rear, shouldn’t be more than $250.

You might also want to take your car to Sears and get your battery tested. A replacement with installation may run $50 -$70 depending on the size (I would go for simply replacing whatever size (cranking power) is in the original).

You can call or email me if the quotes sound a little fishy.

Dad
And I know I'm planning WAY in advance, but it's now to where I'm at odds about which story I want to write for Nano this year. I said TOAD, but MoD v.2 is also poking at me, saying, "Hey, you can't figure out the first chapter of that other story, but you've worked me out entirely--do me first! I'll actually get DONE!" =p [In contrast, TOAD says, "Yeah, but since you submitted MoD stories, doing something related will look like you're just ripping them off, even though you haven't read anyone else's stories and have a significantly different twist on the concept!"]

I mean, I know y'all don't care, but I'd sooner not divide my time between two stories. I could possibly work on one early and hope I come up with another idea for next year's [something I vaguely worry about but, if experience shows, I shouldn't really], but which? Unfortunately, I've noticed my book-format writing stagnates without the Nano word counter to keep me honest, so whichever I don't do in November will kind of fall apart... I'm rather aggravated by the idea of having to choose. Why couldn't I have thought of one of them NEXT year instead?

As I noted in
houndkolbsedek [mostly because linking there's the easiest way to show Marc my script, should I hire him after all], I'll be posting thumbs there when I get a chunk of time to do that [maps still call, as does this Charles Schwab thing my father's bugging me to do]. I did end up signing up on Blogspot, as a result of monkeying around and kind of not really getting what I was doing [I confess], so that's where my new Nanos will go--since I don't really enjoy the fuss of setting up a new LJ account, and it looks like I can have multiples anyway.

*Internet whore*

I haven't really played around with it yet. I'm sure I'll change my mind about using it later, but why fuss with something I won't use for a while anyway =/

Also, I noticed Chip & Dale are also MIA from my Disney labels. WTF X/ Why did I get four designs for a six-design label book? I hope that's just a mistake on this specific printing, I'd hate to slowly lose #Designs from each additional pressing |:( I might have to get a new printer and make my own! *horrors*
