So, in lieu of "Race to Beat Jon," we played this mess tonight:
On a very slight tangent, I realize how important it is to us as emotional beings to be able to share our pleasures with others--taking a friend to a great new restaurant, loaning the latest Ratchet & Clank, etc.--because a joy shared is a joy multiplied. Thus, I recognize the emotional gamble of sharing something, only to have it received poorly, because most of us as people [especially as emotional people] equate a rejection of one's pleasure as a rejection of a part of ourselves, however misplaced that judgment may be on the sharer's part.
That said, when I win a game by virtue of everyone lost interest, it's not that satisfying. I can appreciate why Thomas wanted to play... Tiberius Imperial or something like that [I can't be buggered at this point to look it up, as late as it is, but mebbe I'll comment later with a correction], but it's a repeat of Advanced Civilization--fiddling with so much stuff, and for the first time, doesn't make for a good time had by all. I mean, we didn't even do any combat =p and Chars declared me WINNAR by virtue of I picked the "I get 2 VP" role to shoot me into the lead.
That said, I don't think the game's bad, as such. It just had the wrong audience tonight. Certainly Marc would enjoy it--"It's a good game when it takes longer to set up than to play."Two days ago, I was fifteen. Next year, I will be eighteen. When is my birthday?
So, I go to the desk at the post office to try to get book rate for Half sales, right? But the clerk [chatting with the one actually behind the desk], after asking me if I wanted to pay with credit, took it over to the APC and printed up a 1st class sticker there.
Couldn't I have just done that myself, and not stuck the postage label on so as to look like a total afterthought? =p Why do I bother...
