I was going to say something along those lines but with some less-scholarly dry humor. "I would assume the boat isn't sinking, so not until the boat itself is unable to float or the rope is cut from it."

And water displacement is precisely the reason I was able to help build (and then row along a river in) a perfectly sound concrete canoe. People are often astounded until I explain why it works.
