So I hadn't even read LJ in the past couple of days and see that Fawx is ready to play Musical Jobs [that is, I take his, not he takes mine necessarily--that would be a HUGE step backwards]. Unfortunately, I'm kinda plodding along at the moment =p and, despite everything I've been saying, am not ready to do all my resumé and interview crap yet.

I think I just figured out the 'three cuts, eight equal pieces' puzzle.

Cut one: Cut laterally along the height of the cake, separating it into two pieces of similar radius, but half height.

Cuts two and three: Cut both of the half-height pieces with one cut across the center point, then rotate your blade 90 degrees and cut a third time across the center.

All the pieces should now be identical.

riddle 2. 24?

"Twice Four and Twenty" could be:

2 x 4 + 20 = 28
or
2 x (4 + 20) = 48

So a 7th of them would be either of
28 / 7 = 4 (24 remain)
or
48 / 7 = 6.86 (41.14 Remain)

As the latter doesn't make much sense (mostly dead?), I'm going with 24. So I agree with Jenova. :D

In that case the answer is 4 dead ones cause the other 24 flew away from the gunshots. :3
