I need more horsie people on my flist. *sigh*
I just have to vent my frustrations here a moment. Many of you know how hard it is for me to find a horseshoer - I've gone through at least 6 in the last three years. I'm unhappy with my current guy. Problems Star (Melissa's horse) has never ever had showed up after the first time he trimmed her, and just visually this time I can tell that things aren't right.
So when I notice that the customer in here has a boarding place, I asked her who she uses as a horseshoer. Big mistake. She uses herself. She doesn't believe in shoes - says a horse trimmed right can be barefoot - any horse. My horse, thus far, apparently has never been trimmed right, because she can't. Without shoes her feet crumble. This woman tells me that horses must be trimmed every 4 weeks - something I've never heard before. She tells me I'm feeding completely wrong and that the solution to my mares fidgeting with a farrier is a stud chain. Right. She's getting over a torn ligament, gee, I think I'll use pain on her nose so that she stops fussing over the pain in her leg. That sounds like fabulous training to me! I'm sorry, I can't stand it when the solution is to bully a horse into fear rather than communicate with them into respect.
I'm so annoyed. I even just vented to OM just to get to vent to someone outloud. *sigh* And now I have to find another horseshoer - how the hell do I pick one? Just try any I can find that actually calls me back? Sometimes the equestrian world, with all the drastically differing opinions just pisses me off all to hell. How does one learn that way?
