Weekend Updatedness

Wow what a fab weekend. I hate coming back to the week after a good weekend. It was all sorts of girly. Saturday Melissa, Kat, Mikaela and I went and got pedicures. My toes have never been so adorable. Actutally, Mikaela didn't get a pedicure, she just charmed everyone in the place and wanted to play in the foot spa thingies. Then we saw "The ( Read more... )

*sigh* I know... I had to stop reading the support forums, I was getting too annoyed. I saw something on cnn while at lunch at a chinese place about some company with "massive data loss" and wondered if it were them, I couldn't hear it really. I doubt it, but wouldn't that be interesting.

Perhaps if I go down and look for Mr. LaBatt personally, San Fransisco isn't that far... hell, I'd make it before the next uber informative update.

Current speculation seems to be that they're having the board meeting to figure out whether to tell everyone they're screwed. Various conspiracy theories abound!

Oh crap, did you see this new announcement? Is it me or does this restore plan seem a little ill-conceived?

The other thing that's totally heinous is that they seem to be telling people that although the balance will be restored to their chest, if they want to leave after this the chest cannot be refunded. Dude, they should refund the chest balance to the original payers if the board decides to move. Some people have hundreds of bucks in there.

It seems totally ill-conceieved. Basically the newest update said nothing new - they don't know, they don't know, they don't know.

I am getting really tired of this. They can't refund anything because they "don't keep credit card information on file". BS. They have to have it on file somewhere... any reputable business does, even if its in hard copy somewhere.

And.. being in the business.. its just disgusting the idea of not having backups off site. If data is your life blood, as it should be for any internet based company, you have a good backup system. Granted we are a very small operation in comparison, but our customers would roast us alive if it took more than a week to restore data from backup. This is completely insane.

If your machines get fucked, its call reformat, reinstall and restore. What the hell is so difficult about that if you have proper redundancy and back up systems? Grr.

Ok... end rant, I think.

Even if you just had a tape it wouldn't take this long. Tape a day, how hard is that? If the line had been "Uh you lost 23 hours of data, and it'll take us similar to restore the tapes," that would be nowhere near the current fuckup level.

Not to even mention the automated imaging solutions that are now available. But that could be what they're referring to by the "private network" I guess, since it would be by definition connected to the live network and therefore conceivably penetrable. You need a tape too, Rob!

One thing the new update did say is that there is not a single restored server at this point. UH WHAT

Yeah, if mirroring is what they had set up as back up... sure, good redundancy, but come on. Hard copy is still necessary. Ya know? Course you do.

And others know it too, and thats why most people with half a technical mind aren't buying this...

And yeah, before they were all "half the servers are restored to fullest extend possible" and now none? I guess that's better news being that no one is happy, but damn.
