A HOME AT THE END OF THE WORLD
December 11 2010, DVD, home living room, from Netflix

Almost really good, but not quite. Compresses original story by Michael Cunningham to the point where nothing seems to matter; he wrote the script too, so he should have known that a story that takes place mostly inside the heads of the protagonists wouldn't translate well to screen. All the same, Colin Farrell tries really hard to make us care; Sissy Spacek is a genius, but again, there's not much she can do; Robin Wright Penn (or is it just Robin Wright again?) does her best; and unknown-to-me Dallas Roberts, no relation to Julia, Eric, and their respective spawn, is the best thing about it - quite sexy, getting to the depths of his vexingly childish character. Still, as much as I thought the book was well-written, I reached the end in hate with all three main characters; this film is utterly inessential.

home, netflix, don't bother, gay, drama, dvd, adaptation
