SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD
July 28 2010, Regal Lloyd Cinemas

Yes! I saw a preview screening a good two weeks early! I am awesome.

This is another movie I'm not going to review too much in depth, because it would be 20,000 words long. Suffice it to say that I loved it, Michael Cera was great, Kieran Culkin was great, Ellen Wong was great, Jason Schwartzmann was great, Allison Pill was great, Mary Elizabeth Winstead was luminous and lovely and about as great as the script would let her be (because this movie isn't about Ramona Flowers's feelings, inner life, desires, or personhood; it's about Super Self-Centered Scott), the unexpected cameos were great (no spoilers!), and Brandon Routh was BRILLIANT and I'm in love with him all over again. The music is excellent (much better and more authentic than I'd braced myself to withstand), the jokes are non-stop and obscure, and the fight sequences are the shit.

Also, Scott Pilgrim pretty much lives the life I've lived for a long time (except that I have a job); the only places that exist are coffee shops, the sidewalks, the bus, Goodwill, the record store, clubs, parties, and one's own home living room. What else is there? I'm so ashamed.

This movie knows me. The comics series knew me, too. Great work, everyone. I laughed, I almost cried, I'll see it again and again, etc.

Edited to add: Actually this is the exact review I would have written if I was going to go crazy. Yes, read this; these are my feelings exactly.

asskicking, comedy, hey! it's that guy!, indie, pg-13, theater, eye candy, romantic, superheroes, instant classic, awesome, adaptation
