That's where I had planned and scouted out for our V Day dinner this year, which was all the more meaningful because even though it was our third Valentine's together, it was our first where we were both back in SG. And I wanted to make it special, so more than a month ago, I'd already did my recce trips and finally settled on
La Vela at the Keppel Club. What drew me to it was the location, which promised a good view of Sentosa and the sea, as well as being an Italian restaurant, operated by Italians. I knew that C loved pesto pasta, which is not commonly found here, so if any place would have it, this would be it.
Well, which V Day would be complete without flowers? I surprised C at home after getting off work early in the afternoon with these. Following that, we went off to grab a bite at Din Tai Fung and shopped for V Day cakes for our parents before preparing for dinner.
I eschewed the fancy interior for a more alfresco setting, which promised more privacy.
Our candlelit dinner table. The Italian wines were really good!
Unfortunately, the much vaunted view was partially obscured by some new construction Keppel Club was doing, and we weren't as close to the sea as I'd have liked, but it was lovely enough, with the occasional cruise ship or so passing by.
The menu was really good (though for some strange reason, the Italians don't believe in soup). For starters, we had Parcel-Baked Field Mushrooms with Truffle Cream, and then Home-made Tagliatelle tossed with SwordFish Ragout and Sun Dried Tomatoes. The entrée was Herb-crusted Veal Medallions with Barolo Reduction, Sautéed Broccoletti, and Semolina Gnocchi, but the best part of dinner, in my own opinion, was the dessert: Warm Chocolate Fondent, Balsamic Marinated Strawberries, and Marsala Sabayon, as pictured here.
Isn't the heart shape really cute? ;) I certainly thought so!
After dinner, it was off to get a better view of the sea at the top of Kent Ridge Hill, and that was our first Valentine's together.
But the real Valentine's celebrations start tomorrow; we're off to BKK for the week!
