Tonight, being the third day of the Chinese Lunar Calendar, C and I went to have our own Reunion Dinner, this being the first time in 3 years that she's back for CNY (or LNY, if you wonder why can't non-Chinese celebrate it too, or whatever).
Being absolutely sick of steamboats (honestly, I really can't see the appeal of steamboats-they're hot, sweaty affairs, wet, bland, have a propensity for scalding your tongue, and when I'm hungry, I have no patience to wait for my sotongball to boil), we opted instead for a more cosy, personal setting with more fiery cuisine. So we decided on Thai food at
Paddyfields at the Copperdome.
Operated by the Tung Lok group, we didn't expect anything less from Paddyfields. The ambience was lovely, though I found it a little odd to have Spanish music in a Thai restaurant...!
Thai iced coffee. I could still taste the rosy taste through the coffee. Absolutely delightful.
I wonder if it's unique to CNY, but that plate of hors d'oeuvre is actually bak kwa strips laid within lettuce and chopped spring onions, and marinated with some lime sauce. The bak kwa tastes quite normal-until you chomp on it between the lettuce, and the mixture of sweet and sour is just heavenly. I certainly hope it isn't just for the CNY season!
Tom Yum Talay. Don't belittle that tiny bowl; Paddyfields does it spicier than normal, and it is certainly a fire-breathing effort to down it!
Sweet potato leaves in Thai herbs and chilli. Originally we wanted kangkong but they ran out, bugger! Still, for me to voluntarily wolf down vegetables, you know it had to be good.
Grilled chicken. I don't know how they did it, but the chicken was just so succulent and juicy.
And of course, how could we miss the famous Thai desserts. That's ruby water chestnut, jackfruit and (I forgot what the green stuff was) in coconut milk with crushed ice. I was so stuffed by the end of dinner I felt like exploding, but the moment I tucked into this, I just had to gobble it to the last drop.
And that made 2 very satisfied diners. :)
