Beautiful dream.

Dreamed last night that I had found the most beautiful work of stone I had ever seen. It was a spiral shell of some ancient crustacean, fossilized improbably in what appeared to be moonstone or pale jade. This had been wrapped in copper wire and given a setting of small blue stone beads of various types - lapis and turquoise and some I didn't recognize. When I held it up to the light over my head, I could match the spiral in the stone to the spiral in the light itself - whatever that meant.

I also discussed witchcraft with many ardent practitioners, professing how glad I was to have found my athame early on. My mother found me in the shop where I had found my rock, and was shocked to find me in witch's robes and scarves. My dad came too, and when he saw the stonework in my hand promptly dismissed the idea of purchasing it for me unless it was under $20. I looked at the price tag to find $99.24, and sorrowfully put it back, only briefly entertaining the notion that I might be able to haggle my way down to something acceptable.

The shopkeeper also tried to get me to buy a long, ill-fitting but beautiful gauntlet of solid blue gold. It was a very beautiful dream, full of baubles and bright lights, soft warm colors (if blue can ever be said to be warm, this dream presented it), and a sense of the numinous.

Also in the dream was a large group of my friends - Robert and Sarah and Ali were all there, and several others - all of us planning to watch the Big Lebowski on mushrooms. We started an impromptu chorus of Lookin' Out My Backdoor.

When I woke up I promptly picked up my books and began to read. Demon-Haunted world, under my belt. Varieties of Scientific Experience begun! (I would have gone on to Death By Black Hole or perhaps In Defense of Food, but I own both of these and I got Varieties from the library.)

Now, though, I'm going to have lunch and then go for a walk, because it's a lovely day.
