I had a serious "OH!" moment last night regarding black holes and the nature of gravity and time. Brief History of Time is doing wonders for my geekdom.

Before, I had always viewed gravity as... hills and valleys in three dimensions. But I think what I was envisioning was simply the effects of gravity - not gravity itself. What causes these hills and valleys in space-time?

Gravity is energy given off by a body of matter in the form of gravitons, which sounds less real than most Treknobabble I've heard. This energy is an attractive force that gets weaker the further away from the source the observer. Gravity wells and gravity fields are areas of high concentration of this energy around a massive object. Stop me if I'm off base.

Gravity and time are inextricably linked, though I can't remember how, exactly. It made sense last night.

This is one problem with a highly visual imagination. I can *see* it, but I can't explain it. Maybe I should've got into art.

Brief History of Time + marijuana = deeper, more meaningful understanding of the universe.
