I HAZ AN OUTLINE.
MY OUTLINEZ. LET ME SHOW YOU THEM.
First off, I finally named all my characters. The snake-liens are named via translation of their gesture/dance into words. So, my main snake-lien character is Tangerine Left Double-Nod Sway Greeney-Blue. Shorten that to an acronym: TLDNSGB. Also, take note that the last color and movement are shared with his sibling group, so his brother's name ends the same way (Red-Brown Right Left Right Sway Greeney-Blue). That bit's considered like a surname.
Adding vowels makes these easier to say - TeLDaN SyGiB, and RiBReLeR SyGiB. For the sake of ease I'm losing the capitals.
The Polarins don't have nearly as complicated a naming system. They just choose a sound or collection of sounds from our language that they think sounds neat, and we write it down. So my Polarin's name is Azt.
My prophetess's name is Animadverto, shortened to Ani, which means Sight or See in Latin. She was named this because she was the first to develop her psychic abilities, capable of seeing around corners and through thin barriers as young as two or three. (Before that, I'm not sure what they called her.)
Her brother the prophet is named Iustus, which means Fair in Latin, because he inherited more of the pale polarin pigmentation than his fellow crossbreeds, as well as white-blonde hair and pale pink eyes. (Simplistic, perhaps, but it's also a cool name.)
The humans were easy to name. I named them Julian and Heather a long time ago, though it occurs to me now that they will be wanting last names eventually.
Ok. Now on to the outline proper.
Sequence of Events:
-Ani has her vision. She sends a message to Heather, who is her grandniece, one of the earthlings.
-Julian and Azt are out joyriding in the upper winds of Jupiter. They get in trouble, and go with their parents to a confrence with the earthlings on Earth.
-While on the planet, Julian sneaks out to get some earthling tail for he and Azt. He finds Heather, but instead of a hot threesome, she shows them the tape of her aunt's plea. They argue, but eventually Julian is convinced.
-They take Julian's dad's skimmer to the moon, where they go to the slums (why there are slums on the moon, I haven't quite figured out yet) and get a beat-up old ship and fake FTL transportation papers. They're off to Polaris.
-Iustus has his vision. Sends word to Ribreler.
-Julian, Heather and Azt make it to Polaris intact, if only barely.
-They meet Ani and Teldan. Talk, then all head off to see Dr Zeke Al-Haddin to see if he can make more sense of the vision.
-Ani and Iustus have a communication on the way to Al-Haddin, in a form of shared lucid dreaming. She's worried, but doesn't tell anyone what's going on.
-We get to Al-Haddin's place and he's a grouchy old mad scientist. But he gives a fancy little device to Heather that looks like a rubix cube/remove-the-blocks puzzle/old nautical map. She's like "WTF?"
-Iustus and Ribreler show up right as we're getting ready to leave. Heather is like "You didn't think to mention this??" Julian and Azt are like "Aw, fuck." Teldan's like "That's my brother we're fighting. And Ani betrayed me. WAH!"
-Before they have a chance to talk about it, Ani dies. All is sad.
-Then they're attacked by space pirates. They steal just about everything untraceable of value on the ship, including the Thingy. So we go after them to get it back (following an ion trail... or something...)
-We get it back. But our ship is destroyed in the process, along with the remains of Animadverto. V. sad. We get out in an escape pod.
-While in the escape pod (programmed to head to the nearest planet we know is occupied) we figure out what the hell the Thiny is, and from there, the coordinates of the star around which the new planet orbits. (I'm still figuring this out.)
-The nearest planet is the snake-lien homeworld. We land there and are in the process of getting a ship when we find Teldan sending the coordinates to his brother. Lock him in the brig!
-It's a race! Who can get to the new planet first!
-The romantic subplot between Julian and Heather will probably ::cough:: climax during that trip. Also, Teldan has a chance to get some things off his chest.
-There's an unrealistic dogfight in space, just a few lightyears away from the new planet. Teldan redeems himself.
-Bad guys are sent spinning off into space. They'll recover control of their ship eventually. Whether or not they still have enough life support to get home after that is entirely their problem.
-First Contact with the new species is made by all four of our intrepid heroes. It's all cool and highly emotional.
-As they're leaving, the dragons show up and give them a little commendation speech. Everyone feels good. It's happily ever after. The end.
The weirdest thing about this? The primary romance is.... *heterosexual*. o.Owtf? Of course, I do get some genderqueerosity in there with Azt. We call him a he for the sake of ease, but the Polarin gender system is completely different than the human binary norm that they all read as genderqueer to us.
