Kuwentong Sci10 Lang: The Pre-Final Finale
Time flies when you're having fun. And that's evidenced by my random picture up there: the all-complete Science and Society arsenal - the book, the notebook, the pens, and a nice pair of shoes to boot.
But that's nothing compared to the drama behind every Science and Society day... especially when you're having the final oral exams.
Episode 6: Dashing Through the Snow?
After our second experience of the oral exams (2 thesis statements, one to defend), my dearly beloved Ma'am Achoot released the 10 thesis statements that we have to befriend until finals day. Diyos lang nakakaalam kung paano kami nag-react nung araw na iyon. Tila yata kami pinagsakluban ng langit at lupa kasi tatlo sa sampung iyon ang kailangan naming i-defend at i-relate. Hindi rin nakatulong yung mahaaaabang wording ng thesis statements kasi hiningi nito na mag-cite kami ng examples of biotech, renewable energy, and many others.
So officially, nag-umpisa na ang research period para sa Final Oral Exams.
Nang matapos ang week-long screening niya ng Stephen Hawking's Universe, inumpisahan na ni ma'am na mag-synthesize ng buong kurso. Pero kung ako ang tatanungin, hindi naging matino yung closure kasi nag-dashing tru da isnow kaming lahat noong last lecture day. Hindi man lang kami nakapag-goodbye sa kanya nang matino kasi, after giving tips for the finals...
"Okay, I think that should help you. The sign-up sheets are in my office. You may go now."
Naging pandemonium ang classroom. Biglang nagsitayo ang lahat and in no time nagsisitakbuhan na papuntang Vice President's Office. Kung may nakita man kayong nananakbo noong March 20, mga 9 ng umaga along SEC Walk at Caf, chances are kami iyon. And much as I hate running for my life, I did it kasi gusto kong sa last day ako mag-eexam.
Pero hindi rin siya natuloy kasi within 5 minutes, nalimas ng mga kaklase ko yung buong Thursday slot. As in 'grarrrr!' moment talaga ang nangyayari doon at that time. Hindi mo aakalaing mga kagalang-galang na Atenista ang nandoon noong mga oras na iyon. And yes, isa ako sa mga iyon.
I never thought (even before) that oral exams could be this box office. Kung dati, iniiwasan ko ang pumila sa sign-ups para makuha yung last, bumaliktad yung view ko ngayon. Kasi apparently, marami kang kakumpetensiya. It's either you get the very first or the very last (which is one in a million). So ayun, I ended up getting the Wednesday, 6:00 PM slot - still to buy as much time as possible.
Kung alam ko lang, nagpaka-late na lang sana ako for Sci10 at pumirma na agad sa opisina niya. Oh well.
And after agonizing (and getting sick) over the thesis statements for two days, the final day has arrived.
