Please poke a hole in me

I've decided that once I get my license and get into a salon, I'm getting my labret re-pierced. It's probably been my favorite/cutest piercing and I miss it. I currently have a lack of holes through my body (except the ears and tragus) and I'm feeling the itch.

I'm so glad I'll eventually be working in a place that is accepting of non-conservative fashion. It makes me wonder if visual piercings on employees will eventually be accepted in most work places. After all, it used to be scandalous if a woman had her ears pierced...and now it's less common if she DOESN'T.

I remember one time, years ago, when my crazy, religious, bitch of an aunt was lecturing me because my tongue was pierced and I was tatooed. She kept yapping about how I was supposed to treat my body like a temple....my mom and I were exchanging "looks" to eachother because my aunt was eating an entire box of KFC chicken wings and half a pizza at the exact moment she was blabbing of treating one's body like a temple. But temples are decorated. And it's not like I'm treating it to some incredible pain that almost kills me. Childbirth hurt LOTS more than both tats and piercings...but I guess that's God-given pain...so it's ok.

And when I've had my facial piercings, I've never had any wierd curiosity about it. Little kids at a Dr.s office once asked their mom loudly about my labret. I didn't care, but the mom seemed really embarassed, like they had greatly insulted me. And being the mom of a young child, I've gotten second glances at her school and stuff...but nothing to insinuate disapproval or disgust.

It's becoming so accepted in everyday life, that I don't know why businesses are so hung up on it. Especially at a place like my job, where you don't even have to have a grasp of proper English to work there. I guess I can see it at a workplace where you have to have a more formal look, like extreme business dress....and I once worked at a place that dealt with sterile medical supplies and they didn't want foreign objects contaminating the cancer medications....THAT I can understand.

But please...stores at the mall, Wal-Mart, restaraunts....it's time to stop letting it be an issue. If people have a problem with it, it's theirs and it shouldn't be extended to people who sport them. It's decoration, and somewhat cultural....so isn't disallowing it *gasp* politically incorrect???
