Last entry was just saying I got rear ended. It was fun. So, I just had their insurance guy come check out the damage, and he said they're most likely going to total it out. So that means about $1000 in my pocket. Poor car. It's so old and sad...
Well, I've been needing a new car anyway. My current car is a 1989 VW Golf with 305k miles on it. I just never could afford anything else before. But now with the accident and my raise, I can actually afford to put a reasonable amount down and a monthly car payment. So one of my best friends, Kris, is engaged to Eric, who works at Carmax. I'm their maid of honor so I knew he could hook a sister up. And man, he came through!
I have on hold, at this very moment, a cream-colored 2005 PT Cruiser with 38k miles. Mint condition. $9000. I have never liked PT Cruisers, I always thought they looked like mini hearses (sp?), but as soon as I opened the door, I just knew. I sat in there in awe; the dash is a shiny silver and very different and modern looking, the inside is amazingly spacious, the seats all fold and are removeable. The shifter sticks up from the floor of the car (manual, of course), easy to clutch. Driving it was like a dream, so easy, didn't at all feel as big as it looked. It was bought new by a court house in Virginia, and sold a year later-- which means it was never privately owned, only by the government, which means very regular maintenance and upkeep. I never thought I'd be able to afford a car so new!
At least, I'm praying I can afford it. We couldn't run the checks and all tonight, as we got there kinda late, plus I still don't know exactly what the insurance company is going to give me for my car. Naturally, insurance is gonna be a little high, but I can't imagine it being much more than I pay now-- I'm not going to go with Geico anymore and from what I've heard from all of my friends, I had the highest rate for my 89 than anyone else my age with much newer and nicer cars (and I'm talking almost DOUBLE what they paid). StateFarm gave me an awesome one before, I just had to go with Geico because of registration issues. And then of course, registration, taxes, warranty, yadeyadeyada, it's gonna be an expensive endeavor.
Which is exciting and terrifying. It will be my first car that's really mine, as the Cabriolet was given to me by my father, and the Golf by the Wasilewskis. Not to mention, my first big purchase-- at least, my first tangeable purchase, as my education was pretty big too. It's fantastic, and horrible.
My 23rd birthday came and went with little fanfare, I had to work and then went to Jess's house with a few friends.
My aforementioned arrangement that a few of you know about has ended, amicably and without drama on either end. My decision. :) Something else is brewing. Being patient and feeling very content.
Considering whether I triggered genetic anxiety. At least, that's Kat's diagnosis with her BA in Psych. Two mini panic attacks out of nowhere in the past month. Blah.
Amy's bridal shower was today. It was very nice. Kim Jennings is married and pregnant, whoa, where did that come from? Saw Mrs. Calabrese and Mrs. Oneppo and Karen and Emily... Just. Woah. We talked about Nessa's wedding and how lovely it was (wish I was there, but we hadn't kept in touch, plus by the time invitations were going out, I was dating her ex... hi awkward). So many weddings, babies... Car payments, rent, mortgages, insurance....
So to quote Big D: "Get so confused sometimes, nowhere to turn for the answers, looks like my youthful time is almost up. And everyday brings with it a little pain and rejection, looks like I'm finally all grown up!"
