UPDATE: So. It turns out that the game isn't freezing up, at least not permanently. Instead, when the game needs to load any data it will just stop and attempt to read the disc for up to five to ten minutes before continuing. I've looked at the disc itself, and it does seem to have rather strange scratches on it... I dunno. Either way, I'm probably going to have to get a new copy. Sorry Alex...
