So I've been thinking for the past few months about my future.

For those of you who don't know, last February I was accepted by Digipen into their Production Animation program. I was ecstatic about going. My parents, on the other hand, weren't. It's not that they don't want me to become an arteest, it's just that they are both very concerned about the cost. I'm not applicable for most financial aid grants and such because (a) I live with my parents, (b) my dad makes and saves up too much money to be considered poor and (c) my grades weren't that good in high school. So what about loans, you ask? Well, my parents have had bad experience with that in the past... Terrible enough that they will not cosign my loans, if I'm even allowed to have any. Through weeks of crying and gnashing of teeth, in the end I was convinced to defer my application and go to PCC instead.

Originally, I was planning to go to PCC for just one year and then go to Digipen, but my mother doesn't want me to do that. Instead, she wants me to go get an Associates Degree and then go find a full-time job that pays well. WHICH sounds like a good idea, but I honestly can't think of a good, temporary full-time job that will pay well enough to matter in the face of a $150000-200000 schooling fee. In the end, I'll probably just do that though. I don't have a better plan. Still, I will have to get a loan in the end anyways, because I honestly will not be able to pay all that up for a looong time.

...you know, the more I think about it, the more I realize that spending more time here might be a better idea than I thought.

My Current Plan
1. Stay here for two years, earning either a degree in Art or Multimedia (not sure!)
2. While here, spend MUCHO time life drawing and, uh, just drawing in general.
3. Find a part-time job, get as many hours as I can.
4. GET A CREDIT CARD FOR CREDIT-BUILDING. I know, it sounds like a horrible idea, but it's not. Trust me.
5. Get a driver's license and get a car, preferably with my own money if I can (see Step 4), though it's a bit unlikely.
6. In January, go to National Portfolio Day and get beaten up by a CalArts representative.
7. Just... for a small sliver of hope, start applying to CalArts starting Fall 2009.
8. After getting a degree, maybe work for a year before going anywhere.

Yeah... last step is kinda vague. But oh well. I think I'm going to present my parents this and see what they think. Wish me luck, I guess?
