Fic Recommendation #4
Every Saturday I will be posting a fic recommendation, discussing a good fanfic from the Gundam Wing, Harry Potter or LOTR fandom. These will be fics that have stood out in my memory during my seven or so years of reading fanfiction. I do not own or claim affiliation with any of these authors or fics and I am not hosting them on this site; the point of this is to share my favorite fics and discuss good (and conveniently free!) reading material.
These recommendations will cover a vast array of ratings, genres and pairings (slash, het, or no pairings!). I recommend giving each fic a try, because they are written tastefully and artistically. But of course, drink whichever is your cup of tea ;)
So, didn’t get to post fic recommendations last week because it was the Fourth of July and all (Independence Day in the US) so this was not on my mind at all.
This time around I’m recommending two fics in the GW fandom. These are my top two favorite Quatre drabbles/fics. The way these authors portray Quatre is so different (and yet so alike in many ways, kinda freaky) and yet these two fics helped me understand the cannon Quatre better. I feel like Quatre could’ve easily been either of these two people, or a mixture of both.
Title: Destiny
Author: Raletha
Rating: T for Teen
Timeframe: When Quatre and Trowa are headed on a freighter to San Francisco
This is a four part fic that just blew me away. I’m pretty sure most people have read it, as it’s on Dryer Space and it’s quite old. But Raletha paints a beautiful, descriptive tale as how two boys forge a friendship whilst in the beginnings of a war. It’s very sweet, full of feel good-mush that just breaks your heart. Quatre is sweet, adorable, determined and yet ready to do his job. Trowa is hesitant, practical, yet kind with many mysterious hidden depths. I don’t really know how else to describe it, it just holds these elements of sweetness, angst, fluff, and hopes and dreams for tomorrow. Possibly my all-time favorite 3x4 fic.

Title: Can’t Not
Author: Gloria B
Rating: M for Mature
Timeframe: Occurs around the time Quatre and Trowa meet for the first time
Technical writing, very mathematical and instrumental savvy. This Quatre is intelligent, no doubt about it. This fic actually shows why Quatre’s the strategist out of the five pilots. It’s very hard to hit Quatre on the spot, but in this fic Gloria combines Quatre as a Son, Quatre as a Brother, Quatre as a Friend, and most importantly, Quatre as a Gundam Pilot. His varying emotions, his intelligence, and interactions with others made this fic intense. Gloria meshes Quatre’s beliefs with reasoning, his past with his present, and his kindness with his stubborn and gritty side. There are wonderful themes in this story, themes that just fit Quatre’s psyche so well and explain so many of his decisions in the series. This author combines the perfect amount of Quatre's training, past, emotions and expertise to fully create one hell of a drabble and one hell of a character!
Trowa is in here too, and he is wholly Trowa in a way I hadn’t expected. He has a need for physical contact, and yet has a brutal, judgmental side (that Quatre manages to chip away at). He’s very quiet, and yet his actions speak volumes. His kindness, I think, is what made this story tear worthy *dabs at eyes* because in the end, Quatre and he got along and well…it’s sweet.
