So I already told you I started sitting for this new couple in Brookline. So far it's going pretty well; the baby is adorable, the hours are ideal, and I haven't burned the place down by accident (yet). However, there's one thing about this new job that's really starting to irk me. The dad is from Russia and he seems to have me pegged as a dumb, lazy American... which I am, don't get me wrong. But how dare he assume such a thing when he doesn't even know me? He's a great thinker, this one. He keeps throwing names of books and authors at me, and he acts completely horrified when I have no idea what he's talking about. He speaks to me in a very condescending manner, dogs the movies and books I like, and quite frankly I don't appreciate it. If being made to feel like a moron was something I was looking for in a job, I'd work somewhere with a cash register, cause God knows I can't figure those things out to save my life. Anyway, the next time he patronizes me or makes me feel like a retard, I'll just throw some giant complicated word at him from my extensive AMERICAN vocabulary and see how he likes feeling stupid. How does 'idiosyncratic' sound?
