The Road Less Traveled
What do I do for a living? I basically hold people’s hands. The vast majority of my practice is Real Estate law. It's not the legal equivalent of splitting the Atom.
How did I get myself into this? When I graduated from Law School, I didn't have a job waiting for me. I wasn't at the top of my class. Neither was I at the bottom. A friend of mine from Law School was a comptroller at a Mortgage Company. He hired me to do Accounting work until I could find employment. Eventually I became the Associate of the Attorney for the Mortgage Company.
You never know what road you travel will lead you to an ultimate destination. Had I gone to a different school, had I sat in a different seat, had I worked harder in Law School, or for that matter High School or College, my life would have turned out differently. I'm not complaining. I just find it interesting. I didn't take the road less traveled. I took the road most easily traveled.
I wanted to practice Entertainment Law. After taking one course, the only conclusion that I reached about the combination of Entertainment and Law, It is a crime when I sing.
After two years of working for the Mortgage Company, besides being in desperate need for an extended shower I decided to strike out on my own. All I was trained to do was Real Estate. Again I went down the road most easily traveled.
I got good at what I was doing. I got semi-successful at what I was doing. I got extremely bored at what I was doing.
I love the Law. I just never had the guts to really practice it. I'm now coming to the crossroads in my career. When my dad was in his fifties, he successfully changed careers. I don't intend to completely change careers, but I hope that I can find something to do in addition to my current practice that I can find challenging.
