LJ: Proving that when shit rolls downhill, everything it encounters sticks to it!

Had a bit of a frightening moment this morning when I couldn't log into LJ, even though I knew I had put everything in right. I almost wondered for a brief second if someone had found something objectionable in my user content, and that I too had been "striked".

I can't believe that this went as far as it did. Given, as a teacher, I want to stand up for the safety of children as much as the next person... but there are a LOT of other things that stand to scar your child worse than ROLE-PLAYING journals on LJ. I mean, I was exploring the Internet at the tender age of 13, ran into some WEIRD stuff... and I'm not ruined for it. It's called, first of all, active parenting. How is the minor accessing these websites? Because someone in one home or school isn't doing their job, and no one's checking over their shoulder. When I was growing up, I lived in fear of my mother looking over at the computer when I was online, because I was convinced that if I did the wrong thing that I would be grounded in a heartbeat.

Secondly, whatever happened to honesty? Kids: if you see a sign at the welcome page that says you have to be above a certain age- tough crap. Wait until you're old enough. There's nothing there that won't wait a few years. Heck, it might even be more exciting.

I guess that's it. Maybe I'll add more onto the list if I think of something, but for right now I'm supposed to be culturing yeast in glycerol.
