For far too long, I've been taking Shirim for granted, ever since I joined on a whim nearly two years back. Most Wednesdays it was just "okay, time for Shirim now, what shall we do today?" But today, amidst the waiting and watching in awe, plus the high-strung emotions, it finally struck me that Shirim has given me a lot.
I haven't been for a lot of outings, really I haven't. And perhaps it's hindered my ability to bond with some of the other Shirimers. But even without the lunches and sleepovers and Annual Beach Volleyball Tournaments (yeah, I made the last one up), I've still gained experiences that would never have sprung up otherwise.
I wouldn't have been able to say that I can play an instrument, because I didn't want to play a keyboard with two hands when I was 5. (I guess now I can, sort of, but then again not really, if you see what I mean. Which of course you don't.) I wouldn't ever have represented the school in a competition, because the school believes in ~Meritocracy~ and ~Dumping Grounds~ no matter how they try to pat your back and tell you dumping grounds don't exist. And I wouldn't have gotten to know more people in 45th, which did help me to break out of the little group that I was trying to wriggle out of in the later part of Sec 1, and in Sec 2. Sort of.
So I think it was God's Will that I fell sick yesterday instead of today. The agony of missing out on The Last Comp would probably have killed me, and then no more PBB and June camp and GB Day and Handover and Farewell. Well not no more per se, but no more for me. Boo hiss.
Apart from all the emotions that should be inspiring me to write a cheena essay right now, I'm so thankful we didn't turn out to be this year's cannon fodder. Seriously though, fourth joint-third is MINDBLOWINGLY AWESOME. Does anyone know who took videos of our performances? Please say someone did >< Oh and the drummers managed to meet the top half target :D Yup so yay good job everybody, I don't think I could have asked for a better Last Comp :D Bring Shirim back to pipe comp again next year, Future Ringleader!
P.S. We should have a morning announcement about the 3rd Annual Singapore-Southeast Asian Pipe Band Championships!
