Yeah, I do New Year's cards because I'm soooooo slow to get Christmas cards out. I should probably start turning them into Valentine's cards. LOL.

Btw... 50k+ fic? You're kidding me - that's huge!

I'll make my first trip into a 10k fic for this year's Hobbit Big Bang. But I always have trouble with the volume. Despite all my efforts the different parts have different volumes and that's something that bothers me - when I listen and when I read. That's the main reason why I shy away from longer fics actually.

Oh yeah. 50K+. It's insane, but it's also so good. The story I did for podbigbang this year was 45K, so this isn't that different. I broke it up into hour long(ish) chunks) and now I just have about an hour left to do!

I wonder why the volume changes on yours. I think the volume stays consistent for me. The few times it hasn't, I've adjusted it.

I think it's a combination of loud background and cheap micro. The vent on my computer is incredibly loud. I have a NB so I'm pretty close to the vent when I record. Sometimes you hear it very clearly and sometimes not at all. But the recording itself varies in volume. I have no idea why except for the fact that I use a "cheap" headset-micro. But so do others and they don't have these problems.
I tried play with the background noise filter and it helps hugely. But you can still hear it.

And if the volume changes from part to part it's annoying. I know that I don't care too much when I hear the same on other podfics but with mine it drives me crazy.

You could probably manipulate it all in the program but if so I don't know how. I just know the basics - which was enough until now.

Hey, do you want my USB stand mic? It is pretty good. I just upgraded recently to a newer mic.
