Who: P'draig, Lujayn, Fraya, L'vae
When: Morning, 8/31/15, post-Hatching
Where: Living Cavern, High Reaches Weyr
What: Paddy stops in after the Hatching to congratulate Lujayn on Impressing at last. Things get a little emo when Lu realizes she can't go home to Fort and Paddy realizes Lu won't be /his/ Weyrling. But ultimately, it's a good 'see you later' for two
long term friends "... no, no, just for a minute," P'draig's voice echoes as he ducks into the Living Cavern, riding jacket half done up. "I'll be right there," he calls back outward again and then squints through the crowd for a particular face. It takes him a minute and when he does find the new goldrider, it's by the color of her hair and Fort's Weyrlingmaster grins, then ducks around a throng of kids going back for seconds to approach the Reaches' newest weyrwoman. "Psst, Weyrling!" he says in his best 'authority' voice from a half step behind the grin still on his face.
Fraya gives L'vae a look that's clearly tired and grumpy, not the playful Fray. She puffs her cheeks slightly. "I'm shardin' /tired/. I didn't /want/ to get out of the cot..." She mumbles, taking another bite of her food. "Are you /kidding/? Did you see how big Rhadruth /is/? I feel like I can eat forever..." She whines, taking another bite and narrowing her eyes at the weyrling before her. "L'vae..." She trails off before giving a sleepy smile. "I'm selfish with my food... I didn't see you come into the cavern.. What's your dragon's name again?"
Lujayn jumps in surprise at the voice so close behind her, but turns with a laughing grin. "Paddy, you made it!" She greets the brownrider with an enthusiastic hug, whatever food she had in tow rolling aside on the serving table. "Did you see? You saw Rielsath, didn't you?" She asks hopefully, eyes glistening proudly. "She's all asleep now, but she would have wanted to come out and see what kinds of things I get to eat that she doesn't.." A step back, beaming. "Leaving soon?" Noting the jacket.
P'draig winks at the goldrider, face all proud-like as he returns that hug. "Sure did! She's gorgeous. And good, good for the sleep. She needs sleep you know." And the brownrider reaches over to tousle Lu's hair a little. "So do you for that matter. Stuff your face then go sleep, Lu." A little wry twist quirks his grin at her question and he nods. "Yeah, I've got duties down at Fort in a little bit and I need to get some of the folks I brought back too, but we're all really proud of you and happy for you Lu. I'll be back to visit again, don't worry, but I wanted to come say hello before I took off."
"Rhadruth," L'vae tries while the new name is fresh in his ears. His smile deepens. "He is big. And made a pretty loud entrance, I remember." Lifting a hand to give a rest for his chin, he lifts eyebrows and takes another look at her plate. "I won't try to take any," he promises teasingly. Pausing, taking a breath, "Bremuth" the weyrling answers.
Fraya nods her head, grinning. "That he did.. When I felt him join with me.. It was like... An explosion! I heard this loud /crash/ and then.. I felt him and I just /knew/ his name! It was.. Shells, it was amazing but so /strange/. It's weird hearing a /man/ in my head..." She shifts from excited to sleepy again and she giggles. "Good. It's mine. If you want more, get your own." Grumble, but it's a teasing grumble. "Bremuth.. That's nice, L'vae.. I'll remember that..."
Lujayn nods, listening like a good weyrling ought to, still smiling. "But she should meet everyone, and do everything she wants to, because she deserves it, she really does.." Exhaustion and excitement have seeped their way into her body, and she finds tears stinging at her eyes. "And you're going back and I can't. Rielsath is here." Face flush, she boldly tries to put words to overtired feelings, guilt for choosing anything over her lifelong home, coming to terms with something strange. "I'm staying here." It's voiced as if a personal choice, not something fated by her new lifemate. Sniff. She wipes at her face, frustrated. "Thanks for coming to see me. I'll write."
P'draig roots around in his pocket for a handkerchief to offer the suddenly teary Weyrling. "Whoa ... hey, hey, here, and you should get a drink," says the Fortian firmly, turning to the table to haphazardly pour a mug of klah to press into her hands. "Rielsath'll get to see everything and meet everyone in due time." His voice drops a little, taking on an undertone so he's not readily audible for a sentence or two then he smiles again and gives one of Lujayn's shoulders a little squeeze. "Good, you keep us all up to date on everything, okay? But right now, you need some food and then to march yourself back to those Barracks and sleep with that lovely gold of yours, got it?" His tone brooks no argument, for all there's friendly fondness in it too.
Murmured words:
P'draig is earnest as he speaks those murmured words just meant for her. "Here's where you belong now, Lu. With your lifemate. With Rielsath. Fort's not getting up and walking away, we'll all be there waiting to greet you when she can fly down our way. And like I said, I'll come back up. Here was my home once, don't forget. There's some places that just stick with you and Fort will too."
L'vae chuckles, tired eyes widening more lively as he listens to her recount her experience. "Its odd sharing your head with anyone. But, yes, I can imagine that a consciousness that is additionally of another gender would be even that much more weird." He takes another breath, nodding, smiling. "Okay. I /should/ probably go get a plate of my own. And see if I can find my family." He eases back to his feet. "I'll see you soon, Fraya," is said fondly. "Don't each so much you pop."
Fraya smiles sleepily, nodding her head. "It's /so/ weird.. I can't help but get confused every time I hear him.." She giggles softly. "He's.. Amazing though.. So big..." She whispers almost breathlessly. There's a pause and she grows wide-eyed. "Oh.. /Shells/. I need to find my parents..." A small groan before she lets out a fit of giggles. "Rhadruth'd be mad if I popped..."
"Mmmhmm," L'vae draws out, amused. But then he's lifting a wave and turning back into the flow of people. Now his steps do move more purposefully towards the food. Taking a plate, the weyrling serves himself up breakfast and then disappears into the crowd in hunt of his guests.
Lujayn sniffs some more, grasping at the klah. More nods, and she swallows hard. "All right," She takes a sip of klah to appease P'draig, looking around the living cavern for just a moment. "I won't forget." Lu promises after a moment, looking quite weepy but not letting herself cry in the middle of the breakfast party. "And once we can fly, we'll visit all kinds of places, Fort included, but everywhere else too." There's a smile somewhere, if someone looks for it. "Rielsath would want to do that." Ever the smitten weyrling, thinking back to her slumbering dragon. "Anything else you think I should do?" Lu finds the heart to tease her friend, blinking up at him.
P'draig laughs and has the grace to look a little sheepish. "There you go, nope, nothing else, except maybe brush your hair, missy," he points out with a tweak of one tousled lock. "I'll let /your/ Weyrlingmaster worry about anything else." A wink follows before P'draig speaks again. "Enjoy breakfast, okay? Congratulations again to you and all of your clutchmates. I'm off to bring my passengers home and I'll see you in a seven or so." Then he straightens a little and tosses off a little salute. "Clear skies, Lu." And he heads out, doing up those last fastenings on his jacket and whistling jauntily as he goes.
