Infirmary, Ista Weyr(#284RJ)
The smell of numbweed, dried blood, and various other medicinal odours can never truly be scrubbed out of the rocks of the infirmary. Near the entrance, the walls are lined with counters with shelves carved into the rock above and below to hold the usual supplies, such as bandages, labelled storage containers for common herbs, and study books on subjects such as anatomy and surgical procedures.
Taking up the majority of the cavern are rows upon rows of cots for sick patients, whether they are just in need of bed rest or require constant medical supervision. Each bed is equipped with a comfortable mattress, white-cased pillow, sheets, and a light blue blanket. Discreetly tucked underneath each patient's cot, whether they think they need it or not, is a bedpan. The last two rows of cots at the very end of the cavern are reserved for the sickest patients and each has a moveable curtain that can be drawn for privacy.

It's early evening, and the infirmary is fairly quiet for the moment. A few beds are occupied, but Josian isn't at one of them. The healer is up at a counter near the front. He's jotting notes into a file open in front of him, humming softly with his toe tapping along to the beat.

Early evening would usually see P'draig at the restaurant but it must be one of the days that they're closed. The brownrider steps inside, waits a moment, then heads over to the counter, grins as he spot Josian. "Hey there Journeyman," he greet the healer with a grin. "How's business tonight?"

Josian flashes P'draig a smile. He taps his finger against the file as he grins over. "Hey there brownrider." Josian mimics cheerfully before he shrugs. "Business is rather slow tonight, but that's fairly normal. Lots of minor illnesses lately."

"Heh, that's good news for a healer, right?" P'draig quips and settles his elbows on the counter. "Listen, you know that bug that's been going around right? I have a friend who came down with it. What's the going advice for it and what should they take for it other than rest and lots of good soup?"

"It is! It's rarely a good thing when the healers are busy." Josian says with a grin back. At the mention of that bug he winces. "Yeah, I know the bug that's been going around. So far I've managed to avoid it." He pauses for a moment. "Seems to make people miserable, but not be a really dangerous thing. I'd recommend lots of rest and fluids. Hot tea is good for soothing the throat."

"Yeah, she's got a fever, bad headache, awful sore throat. Anything for the cough?" P'draig inquires next and turns his head and appropriately enough, coughs a little into his shoulder, though it doesn't sound like anything more serious than a bit of dust caught in the throat. "Any particular tea?" he asks after he's looked back at the healer.

Josian stands and moves around the counter to bend down looking at a couple of jars. After a moment, he opens one, pulling out a pouch. "This one should be good." He offers it over. "At soothing both the throat and helping a bit with the cough. If she likes it, eating citrus when you feel bad can be good as well. It'll help her body fight it off."

"Oh sure, oranges, lemon, lime. My mother used to squeeze oranges for me when I was little and had a cold," P'draig says with a smile. "So a soup that has lime in it would be pretty good for helping," the brownrider checks and takes the pouch from Josian, sniffs at it like he's trying to pick out the different aromas. "Anything else I should know about it, other than 'don't breathe in deep' around the sick?"

"It would be a good idea for you to eat some extra citrus as well, if you're exposed to it." Josian states. "Fresh is best, but soup with lime is good as well. But yeah, 'don't breathe in deep' is always a good piece of advice." The healer grins over. The tea smells fairly herbal along with a lemony scent. "But hey, I was around Nenny when she had it, and I avoided it. So far. But really, it's just a miserable cold. Fever, sore throat, cough. The cough can linger, but for someone who was healthy before, it shouldn't be dangerous."

P'draig curls the pouch of tea into his hand and nods. "Yeah, I brought her soup a few times. Nenny, I mean," the brownrider says with a grin. "So far so good, even with sick people all around me." He pauses for a moment, considers. "What about kids? Especially little ones, or ones who had a tough time when they were babies. You know Palia was badly jaundiced when she was brand new and Dharia well ... she was a whole month early."

"Little ones you'd need to keep a closer eye on, bring them in to me if their fever gets high or their cough is making hard to breath. I wouldn't worry so much about things around birth with a child older than three or so, as long as they were fine up to that point. Just maybe, keep an extra eye out." Josian actually sounds rather serious and healer-y there for a moment. "I did have an infant in here with a bad case of it, but he recovered."

"Yeah, Palia's been strong and healthy as a runner for a while," P'draig says with a nod. "Dharia's only just going to be two soon though. Still under three. I mean, she seemed to recover from the difficult and early birth pretty well, though she had to stay in the infirmary extra after of course," the brownrider explains and takes a breath. "Okay. I think we can handle that if they kids get sick. I'll bring Dharia up if she's got any problems breathing and I'll let Vrys know to keep Jaivery at Telgar and not have him come for Turnover."

"She should be fine then. If she hasn't had any real issues since. But any child under two can have illnesses be more serious. If you're in doubt? Bring her in." Josian's smile is back as he moves to lean against the counter. "Better have me check her out when it's not really needed than wish you did later, you know?"

"Okay, will do. And if the tea goes over well, it's okay to come back for more? Do I owe you for it?" P'draig asks, waving the pouch badk and forth. "And yeah, I'd hate to miss something from not being careful enough," Paddy agrees. "My kids're everything to me and ... well, Dharia's mother died giving birth to her. So ..." he trails off there, clears his throat, offers Josian a wry kind of look.

Josian shakes his head. "Not for that. That's pretty basic stuff. Some echinachea and lemon. A few other simple herbs. Come back if you need more, sure." That last part gets a wince out of the healer. "I'm sorry to hear that." He states simply before he smiles over. "Your kids are lucky to have a dad like you." And then Josian turns his gaze down to his chart for a moment.

"Okay. I can do fresh mint and lemon from the restaurant if that's good too?" P'draig asks next, brows lifting then grins. "I try," is all he has to say about parenthood at the moment. "Thanks for this and if we've got issues, I'll come back."

Josian considers that. "It would be. Though if you do that, come see me for a bit of the echinachea to add in. And be careful about giving too much to the little one if she gets it." Josian states before he just smiles and shrugs. "I think trying gets you a long way on that front." Here in the infirmary, he doesn't seem so bouncy and likely to tell wild tales. "Feel free to come back if you need anything."

"Okay, here's hoping the kids avoid it," P'draig says sincerely and gives a little wave. "Will do. Have a good one Josian." And with that, the brownrider pushes away from the counter and heads out to deliver tea and Josian's advice to a hooker.
