Today we celebrated Father's Day by going to the Montour Preserve. The weather was beautiful and we saw some amazing things that God has made!
We started at the Visitor's Center where Dad checked his wingspan :) Hmm, looks to be about the size of a Bald Eagle! I was the size of a Turkey Vulture XD (Remember
this guy??) After exploring the exhibits, we walked the Braille Trail, drove around the lake, dug for fossils, and walked down along the Bluebird Trail.
From the Visitor's Center, we saw a lot of birds. Here was a Tufted Titmouse and a Goldfinch.
We also saw a Chipmunk :3 He ate a big lunch and then lounged in the sun...ah
The stream made a wonderful sound as it rolled along. We saw black winged dragonflies and other colors of dragonflies around the water. Also lots of gnats :P
Some orange and purple flowers were blooming. The trees were a healthy green. We heard a lot of catbirds and saw them darting around among the trees sometimes.
In the trees, we heard and saw things moving, but usually didn't get a good view. Here was a bird who paused long enough for us to see it. Looks like a Wood Thrush?
Around the bend, there was a lake full of lilypads and blooming lilies. It was beautiful :)
I almost stepped on a frog while I was trying to take photos. Sorry froggy! There were a lot of frogs croaking to each other around the lake :)
On our way back to the car, we saw this quiet bird on the path. He stood near the edge for a few minutes, then slowly waddled across the path to the other side. He bobbed while he walked and watched us without making a sound. We were able to get pretty close to it and it stayed probably five minutes before stepping off into the brush. We think it was a Woodcock - it's the first that we ever saw! ❤
We dug for fossils and Dad found a lot! He's a digger like Alan Grant :D Here are some of the fossils we found.
It was such a fun day! I'm thankful that we could enjoy it and marvel at God's beautiful creation. Happy Father's Day, too, Dad :) Thanks for driving us to the Preserve!
